well, I cleaned the registry and re-installed both apps and it’s back now.

But, vegas is crashing about 30% through the project.

I’ve got GPU acceleration on, and I was going to try it with multi core rendering set to FALSE.

going to have to narrow this down.

Mark, how do i check the bitrates in DVDA?

    I re-installed and still don’t have ac3-pro.

My vegas and DVDA folders have ac3plug.dll and ac3studioplug.dll.

    Is the ac3plug.dll the pro?

it’s just not showing. i might have to render this in stereo now.

I definitely do not see it.

I suppose I will try re-installing everything and go from there.

    Hi John,

Ok, bare with me here as I collect my thoughts:

    1. when i test my project in DVDA using the preview button (to test menus, buttons, et al) everything is fine.

    2. I do have both an audio and video for everything. I always render the audio first (shorter) then leave while the vid is running. But, I do have two files for each “element”.

    3. The template I selected for rendering video, for everything (main movie, menus, disc loading clip) was under the “main concept MPEG-2” drop down, I used: blu-ray 1920×1080 @ 60i, 25mbps video stream.

    4. The template I selected for audio was AC3 studio.

    5. I just learned (perhaps incorrectly) I cannot use AC3 studio 5.1 for a blu-ray disc…even though DVDA lets it play for the preview purposes.

    6. that would explain that only my disc loading clip (which is an old video that wasn’t encoded this way) was the only one that worked.

    7. so, my next question is: why do i have vegas pro 13 but only the AC3 studio? Should I not have the pro codec?

    8. Can I get the pro codec?

    9. If I cannot get the AC3 pro codec, is there another acceptable audio I can render to for 5.1?

    10. this might explain the huge re-rendering in DVDA.

sorry for numbering, but it helps me keep organized.

  • Very neat.

    I’ll try that.

Right now I’m troubleshooting a 30 hr ETA for a DVDA render. It’s only 29 minutes of stills and some small, small, clips.

I’m running a separate thread for that. Need to post settings screenshots. It may be my blu-ray familiarity–never had issues with DVD projects before this.

Vegas ended up speeding up to about 1:20 overall. Still going to test mxf.

  • yeah, i’m good now thanks.

I needed to get all of them loaded into a single xls to compare. Done.

    cheers.

  • John,

Is there any quality issue for doing that MXF render? I’m just reading up on the format now, but my obvious first question would be aren’t we compressing only to re-compress more on the master project?

Sorry, I should have put that in my first reply.

  • I’ve never rendered into that before. I’ll look for the settings. Any guidance on that?

Update: I wiped quicktime from my machine and rolled it back to an older Version 6 that seemed to fix things.

But, now my renders times are HUGE. It’s a :30 min project of stills and a handful of .mov / .mpg clips from mobile devices.

I’m not sure if it was my rig’s sleep settings, but it ran for 6 hours and this morning it was still churning at only about 25%.

I double-checked all the video tracks and everything is source alpha ( i know 3d alpha will slow things down).

I was rendering a test copy of it to HD 1080 for internet. Normally 3 minutes of video is about 15 minutes on my machine (win 10, 3.5mhz, 16gb ram, nvidia 760).

I have GPU turned off as well.

  • well, i fixed it.

I created a new audio track and lifted the missing source material up to it.

It carried over to the other project fine.

    Crisis over.

I believe i found it. The 32-bit floating point setting was on full-range.

I moved it back to video-levels, and all the stills (all several hundred of them) appear as advertised.

Thank you for participating though. Good forum here.

Now, if i can only figure out why my preview window is so choppy. GPU turned off. It makes for tough timing. But, I can re-post to avoid self-hijacking here.
