[Aaron Cadieux] “I just think it’s a waste of time for everyone to cry about software. If a company wants to hire a “mench”, they have every right to do so. I’m not the one crying about how a “mench” is going to take my job.”
You are so… clueless… no one here is worried about anyone taking anyone’s job because FCPX is sooo great! – people are angry that the software is sooooo bad.
For example:
1. No decent tape export controls so we can send the finished projects to broadcast stations.(broadcast is not impressed by Apple and FCPX)
2. Not being able to send a product to sound post – not a big deal unless you are a pro.
3. Having to recreate old projects in order to use the benefits of the new software, tedious and a waste of time.
4. Not being able to use all the screen real estate for a timeline because of the one window concept – necessary if you have a complicated job. Bins were great, so were sequences – it kept a very complicated job in one easy to work with project.
4. etc. etc. etc. (it’s well documented here)I have to laugh – I doubt anyone is worried that FCPX will make anyone a better editor, in fact I believe it will make anyone using it worse which will cut down the competition. If people want to use bad tools, be my guest – please use iMovie as that really has less features and is therefore even better by your logic!

Thanks for attacking me personally Godfrey – this issue involves many people’s livelihood, and so, yes it can get a bit heated. But I am aiming my ire at Apple. Also I’m not making racial inference slurs like you just did. An apology from you would be reasonable at this point.

Something to remember is Steve Jobs reaction to the mobileme fiasco – believe me they hate bad PR! That is why those of us bitching about FCPX will save the rest of you apologists who make excuses for mediocrity!
Here is the story about mobileme:
One interesting story is about Steve Jobs’ reaction to the poor MobileMe rollout in 2008 which was marred with slow services and downtime.
In Fortune’s story, Lashinsky says Steve Jobs summoned the entire MobileMe team for a meeting at the company’s on-campus Town Hall, accusing everyone of “tarnishing Apple’s reputation.” He told the members of the team they “should hate each other for having let each other down”, and went on to name new executives on the spot to run the MobileMe team. A few excerpts from the article.
“Can anyone tell me what MobileMe is supposed to do?” Having received a satisfactory answer, he continues, “So why the f*** doesn’t it do that?”

[Keith Pratt] “What a waste of internet bandwidth.
“I won’t call you what I feel like calling you after that rank insult to Chris – your last name covers it, thankfully.
Chris, makes a great point and I believe that is exactly it. Milking the name “PRO” is exactly what Apple is doing. This way the hobbyist/amateur can feel he is as good as the hollywood feature editor, and all for only 300 bucks! Apple is being very cynical in their marketing, they know no one would shell out 300 for iMovie Pro – so they think let’s milk the name.
Also, I doubt the hobbyist or amateur will spend 300 bucks for this. I think they will make less money than you think. I spend on software because I can write it off as an expense. Pros have the most money which is why there are so many companies that cater to us – like AJA.
By the way, I think this going to blow up in their face like with mobileme and iMovie 08 (another Randy fiasco).

[Buddy Couch] “”Get on the bus or get run over by it.” Love that quote.
“In this case the bus is going to drive off a cliff.
I’ll take my chances not being on it.

Well I’ll add one thing, Apple hates bad PR, and they are getting it in spades. When Conan O’Brien mocks FCPX, something that a small subset uses – it just looks bad, and they notice it.
A couple years back Apple released a new version of iMovie that changed the design in a bad way, and after the bitching about that, Apple went and did their best to fix the mistakes and release another better version. They are not so locked in any path that they are completely deaf – they do hear the bitching.
The people complaining loudly here are the ones that will make FCPX better – if we all just drank the kool-aid and smiled you non-complainers would get no improvements.
So thank a complainer – they are doing all you non-complainers a huge favor!

June 25, 2011 at 2:42 am in reply to: Final Cut Pro X Managers answer missing feature questionsI can only say that this is it exactly. You nailed it.
I’ve been trying to track down the culprit and it does seem to be Randy Ubillos – he is the one who caused the iMovie fiasco where they had to have the old iMovie available for free until they could do a total re-write because even the iMovie users were angry with him!
Some defend him – like he invented NLE. I looked into – he didn’t. The interface ideas were already there from Quantel and Avid. He just made synthesized the ‘on the cheap’ version of premiere from the real trailblazers. By the time it came to FCP 1 the paradigm was set already – media100 had a similar layout, but he is a legend now (at least in his own mind). It appears from his trail that he is the guy who now thinks he will tell the whole editing world how to edit. I don’t think he should get a pass like he did with the iMovie fiasco. Not for this level of damage.

I know what you are saying, but I think Randy has snapped… He even screwed the iMovie people, which I find amazing! Even they thought he killed their limited set of features!
I certainly wouldn’t want him designing anything for pros – maybe years ago, but not now!
This is from AppleInsider from May 18, 2010
“In 2007, Final Cut Pro’s original lead developer, Randy Ubillos, completely redesigned iMovie ’08 to streamline and simplify the iLife title. The changes prompted criticism from existing iMovie users, as the new app didn’t do everything the previous versions did. Last January, Apple released an enhanced iMovie ’09 version that addressed many of those missing elements in the new app.
The Final Cut Pro team has since been put back under the direction of Ubillos, according to information AppleInsider has obtained, with the aim of similarly improving Final Cut Studio and making it more appealing and useful to the needs of prosumers. Currently, Final Cut Pro is targeted at advanced professionals with a scaled down, less expensive Final Cut Express version sold to users who don’t need all of its high end features. Because Apple now primarily sells the Express version, the company wants to rethink Final Cut Studio and scale its overall development to better fit the majority of its customers.”

I hear you Jerry, but Randy is now known to do what he wants to do, not what anyone wants or needs – that comes with arrogance. I went and looked for comments about him from this past winter (I have to admit I laughed when I saw them as they were prophetic). Comment are from Feb 23rd and 24th of this year.:

“Randy Ubillos, the developer behind the completely redesigned iMovie in 2008” That should read “the guy that ruined iMovie” Lets hope this idiot does not butcher FCP as well.**********
Aw man. I’m really worried about this. I hope they don’t touch Color!**********

I don’t like the sound of ‘ambitious’ at all. I don’t need my editing software to be pretty. I need to to be simple and work well. ‘Ambitious’ sounds like the want to redefine editing software. This has me very nervous. I can’t stand iMovie. Please tell me it’s not headed in that direction.
**********
This is terrifying.
**********
Sigh, I seriously hope the head guy who worked on the new dumbed down iMovie won’t work his “magic” on this…
**********
Slightly scared about this…
**********
I just hope this won’t turn into iMovie Pro…
Like almost everybody else who is familiar with FCS I hate the new iMovie crap with venom.**********
Why on earth would they do “complete redesign of the UI”? In all honesty it doesn’t make any sense especially when a “iMovie guy” has the lead. There really isn’t anything wrong with FCP user interface. Yes, it can be made better but complete redesign sounds bad since you have re-learn something that brings you very little benefits.
**********
Is this the guy that shafted iMovie? great stuff, he’s worked his “magic” on FCP now… what will we have? No timeline? No save? Movie Trailers!?
**********
That “idiot” decided to totally change iMovie in one of the dumbest UI moves ever. What happens when (if) he decides to do the same to FCP? Worried yet? LOL
**********
Hopefully FCP still has a timeline…iMovie ’08 is horrifyingly awful.
**********
put us out of our misery!!!
Please Apple, just tell us now that you don’t care about pro users so we can go and buy Avid or Premiere!!!**********
iMove6 HD was good – they killed it when they redesigned it and I switched to FCP … hope they don’t add the ‘simplicity’ of the ‘new’ Movie to FCP, not sure where I am going then ….

That is true and I said that in my original post.
I think his ego has gone out of control – he just doesn’t care what the post community thinks or does. That is dangerous for any software developer.
