That should have said Soundsoap 4 and 5 but for some reason my account is a little messed up and I can’t edit my own posts. In any event, Soundsoap is ok for a quick fix. Not as good as the options n Audition but a good buy if you’re like me and don’t have a Creative Cloud subscription.

I own soundsoap 3 (in fact since version 1) and it works well. I find it a little awkward to sample noise inside the FCPX timeline but it’s an effective, quick way to get the job done.

From memory, they’ve just released Soundsoap 4 and Soundsoap 4 Pro as well.

Contrary to the above, I’d advise you to shoot as close to your final image as possible. The 8-bit codec is ok but it doesn’t stand up to heavy grading. Playing around with flat styles, pseudo-log styles, etc just made my life difficult and created extra work I really didn’t need to be doing.

That’s not to say I don’t use custom styles in my Canon DSLRs but just not anything that’s trying to make the camera something it’s not. I use, and love, the custom styles available from https://www.vision-color.com, along with the “Prolost” picture style for when I’m working with extra cameras that don’t have custom styles loaded.

I’m not 100% sure why Handbrake gave you a worse quality end result. I haven’t used it I a while but I remember the results being really good. I’d double check your encoding settings before you start looking at new workflows.
