Good point about the teleprompter. There are points in my text that there is more white throughout the teleprompter text. Some pages are full of white text – others have less. Maybe that was it.

Oddly enough, if you look at my eye – the one on the left as you look at the picture, there is a white spot to the left of my eyebrow. It’s the reflection of the light off of my skin. It looks like I have some makeup or something there but I used no makeup. I think I need to get some flesh colored makeup though, and dab a bit there. I’m going to try doing that to see if it eliminates the white spot. I know I could adjust the lights but I fear I’ll go back to getting a lousy green screen effect.

Thanks Grazie. The video was captured from my camcorder to my computer with HDVsplit

I made the screen shots while the video was in Movie Studio Platinum 13 off of the timeline.

The background is stable – not video – a pic I made off of my video footage.

I was reading off of my home made teleprompter. I have a tablet that the script is on and I stick that in the teleprompter. Nothing changed in my setup or lighting.

I have not heard about the scopes but I will look into if I have that. Wow, something else I have to learn.

I will have to pay more attention to the white balance.

Here’s the thing – as far as I know – nothing changed. The color changed all while videoing the same, “take”. I did not shut off the camera, computer or touch the lighting. So I videotaped for 5 minutes non-stop and both hues were in the same 5 minutes of footage.

I have 2 professional lights one to the front left and one to the front right.

I then have 2 lights in back of lighting up the green screen.

I use to put another light, in back of me – shining on the back of my head – as I saw youtube videos that said you needed to do that. I could never get a clear green screen effect until I eliminated the light in back of me shining on the back of my head.

It took me 3 months (intermittently working on it) to get the green screen effect halfway decent. I still have problems at times w it.

Interestingly enough, I was in Hobby Lobby one day and they had this big roll of green paper – 12 feet long and 4 feet high – the exact color of a green screen. It was not wallpaper but similar. It does not fade in the sunlight. It cost $10 and works perfectly as the green screen!

I’m not too worried about the red hue as it was only temporary and I don’t need to use that part. However, I need to study up on the stuff that you said for future use.
    Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback on the mic John. I could only afford $50 so I figured it would be lousy but maybe not. What you said is encouraging. I haven’t tried the mic out yet. I know $50 is not much when investing in a microphone. The plan is to see how it sounds. The reviews were good but not sure if the people writing the reviews were amateurs or pros. Prob amateurs. I know you are a pro so your advice is encouraging in that it might be ok.

I told the rep at Best Buy that I was trying to have a professional video on an amateur budget.

Thanks for the reminder about project properties. Yes – I did learn about the project properties and always make sure to set them correctly. Never hurts to double check though.

Looks like the verdict is in. USB 3.0 is just fine. That’s good news!

I should not have used the “inferior” word. Sorry. I always trust what you tell me because obviously you know your stuff. I am happy with the usb 3.0 that I bought and am now using. There’s no problem editing now and the files open up quicker. I transferred all of my clips from the Seagate, cloud drive and now have them on the USB 3.0.

File formats are MPEG-2 and JPG.
    Codec HDV
    Resolution HD
    Video tracks – 2
    1 track for titles/graphics
2 tracks for sound – sound track and voice over

I’m progressing with no real problems.

Like you suggested – I bought a Lavalier mic today.

Not sure if it’s very good – It was only $50 at Best Buy. I am sure it’s not the best.

I have not tried it yet but I’ll see how it sounds and if it’s ok I’ll use it.

I was able to re-arrange the Audio Technica usb 2020 and that is working well too so if the lavalier is not good enough I’ll continue using the Audio Technica usb.

Thanks for the impressive empirical test data and all the help! Very impressive!

I’m trying to have a professional video on an amateur, shoe string budget. Oh yea – plus I have virtually no tech skills except what people taught me here.

I’m struggling to understand all this stuff. Rome was not built in a day.

When I get more money, I’ll upgrade my setup

OK thanks. I looked at my manual for my computer and it says I have a “pci express mini card slot for wireless wan card or mSata solid state drive.

So then I can connect the external drive I bought (usb 3.0 – Seagate Backup Plus) drive to my computer via a special Sata cable?

I bought the 3.0 usb drive John. Hopefully that will help. I’m transferring all of my clips over now. I can still keep the Seagate drive as triple back-up as that has all of my clips on it for the entire project. Of course, I won’t have it plugged in I’ll just store it in a safe place. Thanks.
