You have to render the motion menu to see it in motion during Preview.
If you make changes to the buttons (except for the highlight layers) or text or other graphics that will be composited, then you have to render it again to account for the new or changed composited elements.
Motion menus are rendered when the project is built, even if you have never manually rendered the menu(s).

Treat the dynamically-linked AE comp (or the exported AE video) as an asset in the Project panel. Then Alt+Drag the asset from the Project panel to the menu that is showing in the Menu Viewer.

Create buttons as desired in Encore or Photoshop, then delete (or hide) all of the layers in the button except the subpicture layer. This creates a “highlight-only” button that will overlay the button graphics you created in AE/PS.

I’m pretty sure that’s the problem.
Encore will crop the 720×486, and the crop is most likely 3 pixels off the top and 3 off the bottom.
Those pixels translate to scan lines, so Encore is effectively inverting whatever field order exists when you import.
You should do the cropping in your NLE first – make sure to keep an even number on both ends. 2 off the top, 4 off the bottom or vice versa. Or take all 6 pixels from one side.
Export the resized file and import it into Encore. Your field issues should then go away.

You should try 2 things:
1. Use RW discs when you first try to burn a project – no coasters if it fails.
2. Try building a disc image and then using the excellent freeware program ImgBurn to burn the image to disc.

There is a link to a Word document that contains ten helpful tips and tricks to using Encore. It applies almost equally to CS3 as it did to 2.0. The “18 Chapter Playlist” bug that is referenced for 2.0 is fixed in CS3.

This is an informational message telling you that you have an end action set on the last chapter point. When that end action executes, it prevents the end action for the timeline from executing.
The last chapter point in a timeline should never have an end action set – the timeline’s end action should accomplish that navigational step.
After correcting this error, you may find that the General Error goes away. If it doesn’t, be warned that General Errors are hard to pin down, and therefore hard to solve.

You are correct – you must re-export from PPro and put the 16:9 footage and the 4:3 footage in their own Encore timelines.
You can add chapters normally inside each timeline. You can link different timelines together using their end actions, or you can use standard Playlists.

Currently, the output of Encore CS3 (or any other sub-$$$$$$ BR authoring application) is not acceptable at any BR mastering facility.
Note: DVDit’s CMF output will not be accepted.
