The workaround that you describe works very well in Encore1.x. It is not necessary, and in fact can be harmful, if you try to do it in Encore 2.0. E2 adds an invisible chapter point automatically at the end of each timeline to provide this functionality. The invisible last chapter is not movable, not deletable, and its addition is not defeatable.

Encore version 1.0 will number the VTSs using the timelines in the reverse order that they are created.

You must delete the timelines (not the assets) and re-create them in the inverse order that you want.

Encore version 1.5 and later (and maybe version 1.01) will create the VTSs using the timelines in the order that they were created. Encore version 2.0 adds the additional capability to explicitly choose which timeline is written to the disc first, no matter what the creation order.

Load your troublesome file into the program. What is the peak bitrate? Even a single spike above 9.8 Mbps will trigger an error.

Allowable frame sizes for NTSC video are 720×480, 720×486 and 704×480. Nothing else will work.

You have 2 choices:

1. Re-capture your old content at one of those resolutions (720×480 would be best), or
2. Import your 640×480 files into an editing/conversion program and export out avi or mpg files at one of the accepted resolutions. Then import the new files into Encore.

FYI, the $20,000+ Sonic Scenarist won’t accept the 640×480 files, either. Cost of the program is not an indicator of its ability to do anything you want with any format you want. Cost of DVD authoring programs is usually determined by what magic the software can do with compliant files in order to produce stunning finished discs. Nero, Roxio, and others in that price range are limited in that regard when compared to Encore, as Encore is similarly limited when compared to Scenarist.

Sorry for the delay in responding to this – I’m on vacation and haven’t checked the forums for a while.

Joe is correct; I meant that if you try to burn the folder directly to disc (like adding data to a data DVD), the disc won’t work correctly.

Typically, one would check the DVD by watching the finished DVD folder in a software DVD player. If you have an app that can create a proper DVD from a set of DVD folders then by all means, use the folders that Encore creates.

But in the spirit of the Easy Guide, burning a set of DVD folders is low on the priority list. IMHO, it is easier to:
a) Burn the disc (or discs) directly from Encore; or
b) Create a disc image and burn from Encore, ImgBurn, GEAR, Nero or any other program that supports DVD image burning.

There are folks reading the Easy Guide that have never burned any DVDs, let alone tried to burn a set of DVD folders. The caution was intended for them. My assumption is that experienced authors would know exactly what to do with a set of DVD folders, and if that is their chosen workflow, Encore’s DVD folders will work just fine.

Do you have chapter end actions set? If so, delete them. It doesn’t sound like you need chapter end actions for your disc navigation.
