Sorry to kind of hijack this thread, I’ve found the info discussed here very interesting.

As I’m working on several historical projects that are getting larger and larger. I’ve been working off a small raid (LaCie) in raid 5 mode. I’m not in demand of speed, but simply redundancy. My research has led me to using raid 5 as a Widely used redundant raid mode.

I’m now needing more space as the project is growing. I’d like a 10tb raid, locally attached (no Ethernet) and speed isn’t primary concern. I’m looking at:

Or

G speed q

I’ve looked into sonnet, but these are the 2 I’m most intrigued by. Any others I should be considering? Is raid 5 appropriate? I don’t need crazy redundancy, just reasonable.

This is great information…I was debating on Cineform, DNxHD, ProRes. But I was a bit confused…because it seems that each application has it’s advantages to using their preferred codec.

But it seems that Premier doesn’t work like this? No codec offers any additional real-time or enhanced production workflow over another? (except the obvious issue when working with GOP based codecs)

I use licensed music, but YouTube automatically attributes rights…since its for my family and historical only , I’m not concerned about royalties and other commercial issues.

Thanks for the response. I kind of figured that…but I thought that maybe with Windows 7, they had worked that out?

Just to clarify one more point that I am commonly asked. In regards to PAL and NTSC on SD-DVD’s, either play back on any PC, regardless of location right? This only matters on a set-top box DVD player (but my experience is that most set-top boxes can play NTSC or PAL)

The only factor on a PC limiting playback is what region code the drive has, but this only matters if the disc is region coded…which most burnt DVD’s aren’t region coded (I don’t region code my burns)…this is done more for the protection of theatrical movies.

If AVID made the mistake of pre-releasing it…they have to know there is no such thing as anonymity on the internet, once it’s put out there…it lives forever.

He also said, “…including screen grabs from the official Avid site that since got pulled”

My opinion, fair game.

There are MANY posts on this forum that contain many slanderous and comments in poor taste. If this was, in fact, simply a post about an upcoming release of a very relevant software…I think it’s totally fair game.

Censorship is a very slippery slope, there always has to be judgement and common sense applied…but in this case. No need.

I’m typing from mobile, so I’ll be brief. Let me start by saying I’m not an expert…just a user, so I could be wrong. BUT I fixed my issue after installing fcpx, it moved compressor to a subfolder in applications, but not the Qmaster app. When I ran update, it updated Qmaster to 3.5.3 but compressor was just on 3.5 I took compressor out of that folder, ran update again and they were same version number. U can check version number by looking about under file menu. For Qmaster, select app, get info and its in there.

I ask about fcpx because when u install that app, it moves fcp into a subfolder and then the update can’t find the correct apps to update.

U don’t have to reply separately….I got the first message. My money is on the 3.5 vs 3.5.3 discrepancy between compressor and Qmaster. I’ve seen it on a couple machines in our place.

Btw, did u by chance also install fcpx?

Same exact thing happened to me. my problem was I updated compressor, but qmaster had not updated. check your version of Q master and your version of compressor they should be the same version number.
