February 17, 2014 at 5:01 am in reply to: Does audio time code frame rate effect playback in FCPXIm trying to figure out why it’s syncing in Avid but requires resampling in FCPX. It’s the exact same settings so it’s a little baffling to me.

February 17, 2014 at 2:49 am in reply to: Does audio time code frame rate effect playback in FCPXokay well that’s great, thanks for clarifying. So then Audio Timecode Frame Rate does not effect clip length or playback in Final Cut Pro X or Avid. I did a test importing different TC rates in Avid and all they all synced the same.
I hope people take note of this thread when researching the topic, because there’s too many stating that playback is altered which is clearly false. The only way playback would altered is if you’re smart slating or jam syncing because the TC will be off.
I’m wondering why the audio is syncing in Avid without resampling. Same deal, importing 24.00 FPS footage into a 23.98 timeline. Audio is syncing perfectly without resampling, even though I’m pulling down the frame rate. Any thoughts on why?

February 17, 2014 at 1:33 am in reply to: Does audio time code frame rate effect playback in FCPXThanks Walter, yes I’ve resampled it, and because it’s so minuscule I don’t mind doing it. How about the timecode then. It should not effect playback speed in anyway correct.
Basically I can enter any time code frame rate I wish for audio, even if it’s wrong, let’s say 23.98 fps video with 30 ND audio timecode framerate, and it will make no difference in Avid or Final Cut in terms or playback and syncing correct?
The only thing it’ll effect is the actual timecode numbers, but not playback. Correct?

February 17, 2014 at 12:51 am in reply to: Does audio time code frame rate effect playback in FCPXNo I’m not a fan. There’s too many problems, but I do however have a nearly finished project in it that I’d like to finish in it. But yes I have a slew of posts with glitches I’ve come across, and the fact that XML transfer to Logic is useless is a biggie. But I’ve tried to leave behind as many solutions to problems that may be encountered to ease use for people forced by budget or w/e to use it.
Anyway I would like to solve this timecode issue, so please any info is appreciated. I’m researching books now because internet forums are so flip flop on the issue to a question that should be simple. I called FCPX support and they didn’t seem to grasp the question as usual.
I’m going to post on the Avid forum to see why it’s working in there, I’m assuming it’s doing something on import.

February 16, 2014 at 11:08 pm in reply to: Does audio time code frame rate effect playback in FCPXHey Oliver, I mean in the project timeline. I here yes and no. From my tests it does not, but I may be wrong. It should not effect the source file correct?
I ask this to clear confusion, and I have a clip that syncs in Avid without resampling, and the same one in FCPX does not sync and requires resampling. I’m trying to finish the project in FCPX as it’s almost done and I’d like to avoid recutting.
Thanks

Oh and thanks for help guys. As of know i can only resample, or change the framerate of project to 24 to fix. I’m not changing project rate because most of the footage is 23.98

Yes I see what you mean about the playback. As long as playback is 23.98 there’s no way I’m going to get around resampling, but it’s so minuscule I don’t think it’ll matter.
I guess what’s confusing is me is the amount of people saying playback is affected by FPS TC inside Final Cut, based on my tests it’s not. I’m going to to start a new thread on this because there’s too many threads on the internet stating both that it does and does not.

Yes audio is not video but it does FPS for playback. With your logic I can record 48000 samplerate and play it back with 240 fps video and it will match.

I can’t retime, I’m a perfectionist.
I’m recutting it unless someone can provide a solution. Because the 23.98 footage was recorded 30 ND too, I can’t trust that it isn’t off. Wish I caught this earlier but all the 24fps shots are at the end of the film, these are the ones really out of sync.
Apple needs to add something like in Avid where audio frame rate is set on import. I’m a little annoyed because everything I’ve read on forums has stated it automatically converts video and audio frame rates for you based on the frame rate of your project settings. Clearly that is not the case.
