[Robin S. Kurz] ” was talking about the EFFECT, or supposed effect. Not any color… light… naked… what? Familiar with the placebo effect? Then there you go.

Or to maybe rehash the connection: there are zero studies, scientific or otherwise, that point to the effectiveness of either.”

Well, except for scientific studies by those hacks at Harvard University: https://www.health.harvard.edu/staying-healthy/blue-light-has-a-dark-side ☺ And there are a good number of other scientific studies that show the effect of blue light at night… if you want to Google them.

I was feeling discomfort working at night (headaches, eye strain, and other fatigue related symptoms), and the instant I installed f.lux the discomfort went away. So I am a solid supporter of the science behind what Night Shift is trying to accomplish.

Homeopathy on the other hand as far as I can tell is a placebo if it works at all.

[Oliver Peters] “…specifically the timeline – is not as responsive…”

Not seeing that here Oliver. Is this a larger project? I’ve only been working on short form (less than 10 minutes) so far in 10.3.1

Definitely feels faster. There are a few interface bugs, but nothing that slows me down while editing.

Audio redraw feels much faster, but I have not done any larger projects with 10.3.1 yet.

  • [Brett Sherman] “But usually it results in audio coming in and out frequently or stuttering playback. It doesn’t sound like that’s what’s going on.”

No problems with dropping out audio or stuttering on either my 2013 MBP or 2013 MacCylinder using either RX4 or now RX5, or last two versions of Ozone. This is with either FCPX 10.2.3 or 10.3

I was on Yosemite, but just upgraded to El Capitan in order to be able to use FCPX 10.3

  • [Peter Drobinski] “…or whether the full version will do the same.”

I have the full purchased version, and I have not seen this issue here (though I have only used the Dialogue Denoiser so far).

November 7, 2016 at 9:25 pm in reply to: RAW 8K RED footage playback

[Tom Sefton] “Which version of fcpx and the red drivers are you running and was it actually a full r3d sequence or just a still frame, or was it an 8k ProRes file?”

FCPX 10.3 (I tried it on both my 2013 MBP and my 2013 MacCylinder)
    Red Apple Workflow installer v 11.0.0 (10/11/2016)

R3D 8k, no transcoding, but using “Better Performance.” No dropped frames indicated by FCPX.

    Color looked good.

[Craig Alan] “How are your finding rx 4 for removing unwanted b.g. noise? Will RX 5 work with FCP X 3?”

RX5 works as far as I can tell (as well as Ozone 6); have not used it extensively. I have heard reports that RX4 no longer works, but I don not have it installed, so I cannot sure.

I’m not updating on my main editing desktop. But I have both FCPX 10.2.3 and 10.3 on my laptop working fine as far as I can tell. Not sure I would do this on a mission critical editing station but:

Before you download 10.3, zip your 10.2.3 version and put it in an FCP archive folder in your applications folder. Before zipping rename to “Final Cut Pro 100203” or something like that.

Then download 10.3 (this will replace your unzipped 10.2.3 version). Rename it to “Final Cut Pro 1003” or something of that sort. Zip it, and put that zip file in your FCP archive folder.

Unzip the 10.2.3 version and put it back in the root applications folder where it will coexist with 10.3.

[Simon Ubsdell] “When you’re done editing, convert your project to a Compound Clip to adjust volume and apply effects across an entire role.

This may not sound like much but it is in fact the standout feature. And something that’s been requested by so many users for such a long time.”

Can you un-CC a role? This is really cool. But I would like to be able to go back and tweak things in the main timeline if needed, or even do sweetening along the way rather than at the end.

[Bob Zelin] “WE are not the future.”

I think Bob first posted this back in 2003, or was it 1993?

I was the new user he was talking about back in 1993. I hope to continue to be the same “new user” today.
