Thank you for your quick reply Eric,

    you said,

“Just be sure to adjust the input gain settings for each outboard unit. Set the RX output to at least “0” and you should be fine.”

I wasn’t planning to use an outboard unit unless a Zoom H6 counts as one, I was hoping to have the talent use a handheld mic transmitter to a receiver with a Y-splitter that has a 3.5mm coming from the Sennheiser receiver with one XLR connector going into the Zoom H6 and the other into the speaker.
I was hoping this way I could capture the talent as well as play them through the speaker.

As I mentioned earlier I have not done this before so looking for the easiest albeit most reliable way to do so.
I am happy to try workable alternatives too as long as they do not become too complicated.

    Thank you

    Hugh

    Hello Richard,

on the CL-100 XLR to 3.5mm cable, it was the XLR connector end that is damaged the 3.5mm side is fine.
I have attached two pictures that may show some light.
As I mentioned I want to learn to repair my wires (when I can) so will take this opportunity to start unfortunately I am in the UK and shipping the connector from the US will cost more than the part.
If I knew the part number I would try to find it here in the UK, I will still search Redco and see if I can find it there.

As long as I can find/use a part for the CL-100 cable I have then I will be happy to repair/recycle it.

    Once again Richard,

    Thank you!

Thank you, Richard, and sorry for not being clear enough in my request for help.

What I was trying to say (Badly!)
I was wondering if rather than fixing lavs to various people (speakers at receptions) if it may not be a better idea to use just one wireless (Transmitting) mic. To do this would I need to capture (Recieve)the sound into the Zoom as well as output it through a speaker so the audience can hear what is being said, otherwise it looks like the talent is using a dead mic, (well to the audience anyway.
You mentioned that some modern powered speakers have these connections so would it be a case of the transmitter (Mic) to the receiver which is then split (a Y splitter) one feed into a recorder the other into (The) speaker.

Sorry if this is confusing but its the best I can explain my situation.

Thank you for your time and best regards.

    Hugh

  • Thank you, Shane,

Yes, it’s calibrated all three them but just looking at the video export files on the pc’s seems a little dull, by comparison, I am convinced it’s the display difference with the desktop monitors and that of the Mac book pro’s sleek glossy retina screen.

I know what you mean by having so many variables and knowing which ones to tweak just right and those best left alone.

I suppose at some point I will upgrade these monitors to see what I am actually doing as although they are calibrated they are around 6 years old now not bad for 2 x HP LP 2475’s .

    Kudos to you sir!

    Hi Sofia,

I use PC’s and Macs and will agree that if you can go with an i7 processor with as much ram as you can afford you are on the right track, I would lean towards Mac not only because they are really stylish but also super reliable and the real winner is watching your output files on it is awesome (Like night and day) and if you are ever to show your clients in person it would make a much larger impact.

    That’s only my opinion though.

Thank you, you have been a great help, Richard.

Yes that’s the way I’ll go by clipping on a mic for each speaker and maybe the use of a boom for any question and answers (if needed.)

    Best regards

June 26, 2017 at 9:55 pm in reply to: I have run into a sound problem?

    Hello Richard,

Thank you for taking the time to answer my query, I really appreciate this, I have tried to answer all the questions you have asked me as best as I could if you need any more information please ask.

I have been asked to video a corporate panel debate set up in a presentation style which I believe means a panel consisting of 4 speakers facing an audience. The gig is for 2 hrs & 30 minutes coverage which include B-roll of the social gathering before the panel presentation. I I am to operate two cameras as well as monitor the sound for all for speakers and quite probably the audience too.

No mics, no sound reinforcement, I can’t even patch into the existing AV.

It will be primarily for their website and for in-house reference but can also be for the purpose of informing/entertaining their clients.

They want the best sound quality they can get although don’t understand for this they should make a budget for a dedicated sound engineer. They have asked me to cover this for £250, I told them I wanted another £150 to bring in someone to cover all the audio (someone professionally qualified with years of experience) which they think is too expensive.

Yes, this should be in front of an audience.

The only good news is that it’s a continuous shoot, which they will break up into a 90-second highlight promo.

    Hope this helps.

    Hugh

PS I’m told that the last person who covered video for them used to clip on wireless mics.

  • Hi Adam,

I seen your message on the Canon forum too, I don’t use the C100 I have the C300 which is similar and havent been able to replicate it.

    What is your PC/Mac specs?
Have you used the C100 before using the same settings and if so how was the footage then? (I have to ask.)
Can you give us the cameras settings ie you said the frame rate you used was 50i which is interlaced
at 1080? and how many fps?
was this at 1080 and how many fps 25?
I am only asking to try and work out what could be causing it.

So I downloaded the file and watched it first in quicktime (choppy as heck) then in VLC Media Player (Much, much smoother) and lastly in windows media player and here it played near flawlessly.
try viewing it with another player (not QuickTime)if this helps then maybe its your output settings?

    Anyone else have any ideas?

    Best
