Thanks so much. So, if I am editing in Final Cut Pro on a mac, what would be the ideal format, codec etc.? Would it be a ProRes .mov file?

When you say I need a higher quality master than a dvd file – do you mean better dimension, or codec(dvd’s are mpeg-2 i think?)

Sorry, just want to know what to say if they ask me what exactly it needs to be better quality than. Not sure if dvd’s are usually the same format and quality or all different.

Thanks so much, I’m sorry if my questions sound ridiculously elementary.

Hi, this might sound really dumb, but what exactly is the “tape master”? I mean, I understand that it would be a high quality, uncompressed file, but I’m not sure exactly what it is and how it is usually supplied from the distributor to the editor.

I think I actually could get it, but I don’t know exactly what to ask for.

    Thanks alot.

I’m positive that I can’t get the master tape. I will do some research on a program that can convert a .vob to ProRes422. Please let me know if you think this isn’t possible and whether I may have to convert the .vob to something else first. I imagine that would compromise quality quite a bit.

    Sigh.
