    Thanks Geoff, for your test…

I’d be curious if anyone has imported media longer than 12 hours, but it sounds like the 12:00:00;00 limitation might be no longer.

    Best,

  • As best I know, my clients hire me for my experience. A professional editor provides solutions their problems.

As Tim said, this isn’t a new fear. My livelihood has been ‘at risk’ time and time again.

Clients have gone away, opting for their own in-house edit system but almost always come back after a few bad experiences, or I’ve been hired for my day rate to go in and use their system.

I wouldn’t lose too much sleep over the demise of a professional editor.

Remember, video didn’t kill the radio star.

Nicely stated, Bill. Thank you for mirroring my thoughts. Of course, I was quickly shouted down in an attempt to call out that the sky was not, in fact, falling. Accused of overreacting in calling out the overreactions.

In retrospect, I should have not titled my post ‘Chicken Little’ because as someone pointed out, it was ironic.

Like you, I’m not afraid and can afford to wait it out as long as I need to. It’s not like my current kit bag is busted. I’m excited for the challenge and a possibly migration to warmer climes.

    Rock on, sir.

Jamie, what am i trying to accomplish? Have you not spent any time reading through the threads?
People are out of their minds over this, and you’re right that it’s not worth arguing about – so why all the arguing?

Would you disagree that the tone and fervor is a bit over the top?

Sorry if my “chicken little” reference was offensive.

Just calling it as I see it. Nothing more.

Greg, I hear ya. I really do.

One thing though that makes a pro editor a good one is the ability to figure out work-arounds.

When you say “People who make a living off this are done…” I respectfully disagree. I make my living using FCP, just as I made my living using the Sphere and Media Composer for offline, and before that, reel-to-reel with an Ampex Ace 25 controller. I can still thread that 1″ VTR in my dreams.

I don’t feel “done”, only challenged. The prospect of migrating back over to Avid is actually exciting, or looking into what Premier Pro has to offer, or some combination of them all.

Final Cut 2.0 sucked compared to 3.0 and 3.0 sucked compared to 4.0 and so forth. Now there’s a new void in the NLE edit scene.

This doesn’t happen so often. Don’t you wonder what might fill it?

Eric, I absolutely find it puzzling, but not entirely unexpected. I suspected something was up with QT X came out, devoid of all those little features we all used from time to time.

Do you know for certain that Apple will not support Final Cut 7 in any way? Historically, they at least ensure products work for many years to come. It’s just become a Legacy app, that’s all.

Can I use it today in my facility? Nope. Not without deck control and SDI I/O.

Will I be able to in six months? Only Apple knows this.

Am I over-reacting by bidding Apple adieu before the corpse of FCP 7 is cold? Hardly.
