Update: It looks like it still fails when transcoding with it’s original frame rate. If you put it in the timeline and cut out the problem area it does indeed export correctly.
Now I’m wondering if I should just skip transcoding everything to the same codec/frame rate and just import it all as is, edit the project and then see if it’ll export after the edit is done without issue. I’ll try a test with the various codecs in the same timeline and see what happens.

Do any of you know if I can use my late 2013 iMac as an external monitor if I buy a new mac book pro? After reading online, it seems I can but was hoping someone might have firsthand experience. I’d love to purchase other options later but that would work fine for me for now.
Also, would I have any problem updating a fcpx 10.5.4 library to the current 10.6.4. version of fcpx? I know I can’t open it on the older version afterwards. Just double checking in advance.

Thanks for the info as well, Doug, Greg, and Joe! It sounds like most everyone thinks getting an M1 MacBook pro 16″ with plenty of Ram (with the option of monitor for desktop flow, is the way to go. I’ll try to look towards that solution. You guys are great!

Thanks so much, Paul! I appreciate your time and opinion. I’ll double check on the programs I use. I mainly stick to fcpx, motion, compressor, color finale and photoshop. You mentioned a good plan. I’ll think on that as well.

I live in the southeast US. Since I’m looking at possibly buying both I’d like to keep the total around $2500 or under if possible with used options. I’ve been editing 4k for years with proxy files and that’s worked great. I don’t have a personal need to film/edit higher than 4k but it could come up eventually. I’m open to various apple options.
