Thanks Jeremy – I will give it a shot today. Have just imported stuff and not yet rejected anything but ya never know…

    Hi Jeremy,
Thanks for helping me thinking this through… !

Anyway – the clips show up double in the library AND in the events. They are residing in a single event only. What happened is that I dragged them out of multiple events (created by 7tox) into one single event.

So I have clip #1 in Keyword Collection A and the second instance of clip #1 in Keyword Collection B. Viewing each collection lists the clip only once. But the root level of the event has it twice.

I was looking for an easy way to attach both keywords clip #1 and getting rid of the second instance. Something like a “show duplicates” button in iTunes Having duplicates in the library can lead to all kinds of problems further down, i.e. clips will be listed as unused even the other instance has been used, etc.

    Hi Jeremy,

Exactly – I have clips appearing twice on the root level of the event and library. They show once in their respective keyword collection.

What I did was dragging clips between events because I wanted the associated keywords to go with them.

Even though they are linked to the same source media many clips are listed twice (or tripple in some cases).

  • Great – thanks for this (both of you)! It worked great!

  • Hi Charlie,
Thanks for the tip. I have now consolidated into another folder. If I export a new XML now, I assume it will point to the media in the new, single folder instead of pointing to the original media folder in my library.

But this does not reflect the hierarchy that I had when importing the media in the beginning – the same structure that my co-worker has… Perhaps I should ask her to move all media out of that structure into a single folder?

  • Hi Jeremy

Thanks a lot for your input. I will check out the new Ripple Training when I have the time. It’s always good to know the basics.

    Cheers

  • Hi Bret,

Very cool idea! I can open the library folder (show package contents) and can find the events in there. But I could not drill down further into the event folder to find the project file in there. So I just copied that entire event into the other library (and renamed it to V.2) but it did not show up upon opening.

I am sure I am doing something wrong here. Anyway, it obviously was not designed to work this way and XML export/import or just doing it in FCX (patiently waiting) seems to do the trick…

  • Thanks – I understand it now. It’s not the way it was in 7… Even if you uncheck the copy media checkboxes it will copy whatever media is needed to create the timeline.

My problem was that the original transfer library always crashed FCX on my main computer upon opening, and I decided to create a new library on my macbook. Since I already had the media all I wanted was an updated project…

Fast forward: After another long edit day with director I wanted to take the updated project home with me on a little usb 3 drive. I dragged the updated project over to my transfer library with copy media unchecked. It still was awfully slow, even if all media are present in both libraries.

So I guess XML is the way to go. I will try it out.

Thanks for the answer. You’re right, it sucks. ctrl+p is great and it would be even greater if it let me paste a timecode – but I have to type it manually..

Anyway, half way through now. Next time I know!

    Hi Jeremy

I was afraid that this was so… I actually did that, synched before editing. But I ended up with considerably less clips in the synched event than in the original event (the sync report indicated that some clips could not be linked). Under time pressure and worried about missing important shots I started cutting away from the original event (with the director breathing over my shoulder) assuming I could re-link to the sync files later – but obviously was mistaken.

The funny thing is that I COULD relink the clips in my project to the synched event just fine. But the match frame thingy doesn’t work. The old version of sync-n-link allowed to synch an edited sequence at the end of an editing process so the editor could work with camera audio instead of having to deal with multiple audio tracks. FCX keeps all audio tidy in one “track”, thus they did not include this feature in the X version.

Stupid and very basic question: How best to go about replacing each clips in a project? How can I efficiently copy the TC in and out from the project clip and paste it to the corresponding clip in the synched event? So far I am doing it manually but it takes at least as long as the original editing process… How did they call it? Taking the boring stuff out of editing…

    Thanks!

    Georg
