Nope. PCIe only.
Yep, the implications are interesting.

Yes, this is true but have you priced an AMD dual dual core workstation (Intel is not even there yet)? Your lucky to be under $4k
This system should be a real screamer and that Quadro card will be a huge boon to post work.

[Howie] “My questions are:
1. Can I maintain my current 3 partition configuration when upgrading to OS X, or, is it best to create one partition? What are the advantages, disadvantages?
I am not sure of the wisdom for multiple partitions other than a personal organizational method. I would make it one partition and do all of your media management in FCP itself
[Howie] 2. Can I do a temporary upgrade of just my current OS X partition to Tiger so I can author in iDVD 5 while leaving my current OS 9 partition as is? What does this entail? Will I need to download a new version of QuickTime (6.5.2 or 7.0) to the OS X partition?
I would install 10.4 on a seperate HD. I belive you *can* dual boot the computer. That way if it is not running acceptably or you have some kind of incompatibility you have your old config to fall back on.
[Howie] 3. Can I upgrade FCP version 2 to FCP version 4 or 5 without any problem, or do I need version 3 to do an inbetween upgrade?”
Legally yes, not a problem. However, how much ram do you have? You will wan a minimum of 1 gig with FCP 4.x->. Also note that your G4 is near the minimum spec for FCP 5 and below the minimum for HD so, it will be somewhat sluggish.

“Blackmagic Design introduces world’s first PCI Express capture card
IBC 2005, AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS – 9th September 2005 – Today Blackmagic Design announced the world’s first PCI Express (PCIe) based capture card with 10 bit SDI and high quality analog component/composite video connections for high end editing, broadcast paint, and effects called DeckLink Extreme PCIe.”
And for the original poster, it require a single PCIe lane so, you won’t have to use one of your precious 16x lanes for it.
BMD is just on top of things. Kudos!

That is due to the porr graphics card that is a permanent part of the iMac. OTherwise, I know several who are happy with the iMac and FCP 5.x

The Dual G5s really show you what FCP 5 can do. A Powerbook is ok as an offline editor but, I owuld not want to suffer though it on a regular basis.
N ow if Apple comes out with a Pentium M based Powerbook then it will be a different story…

[Bob] “I’m considering returning the Intuos because the mouse is so poor.”
You don’t buy an Intuos for the mouse. 90% of the Intuos users hate the mouse. Have you tried using the stylus? Give it some time – your wrist will thank you. Then you will sail along in Motion w/ getures.

Ok. Just wondering if it had shown up anywhere. They have been very quiet about PPro for sometime. SEems to be losing some steam…

…Motion.
Usign a tablet in Motion is really powerful. I find I can create some organic ‘motions’ that jsut don’t have the same feel as a mouse driven gesture.

Another 6×8 vote. It’s a perfect combination of size – not too big that it takes up too much desk space and not too small to navigate. The Intuos line is more accurate/sensitive but unless you are getting into art applications then the Graphire works fine.
