Thanks for your reply Dave, but just minutes before I read your post I was able to solve the problem. I’m guessing somewhat here, but it seems that I had originally built the titles when I had a trial version of RED 4 on my system (I already own RED 3). A couple of weeks back when I was opening a project and wanted to do some title work, I got a dialogue box saying that the trial version of RED 4 had expired so I deleted the RED 4 filter from the filters folder. I just now finished buying and installing RED 4 and all is good again. So, it seems that one is able to install and use a trial version of RED for Media 100 without having an “X” over the titles – but once the trial period expires it’s “pay up or else…”

Works for me!… with one exception – the “Mark as Read” function doesn’t seem to. Perhaps that’s one of the bugs that you already know about and are working on as I speak. And to get really picky, I much prefer the orange color of “marked as read” posts – or at least something with a little more contrast to the blue… but it’s nothing that will keep me from grazing on a daily basis. Love the COW!!

I don’t think it should be a problem to start from an earlier OS, but others may know better than I. Maybe it depends on what repairs are necessary, I don’t know. As for not being able to start using the disk – if you have an external drive connected via firewire, and it has enough free space, you could install Panther onto that and then choose that as the start-up disk (using “Start-up Disk” in system preferences), repair Tiger as needed, and then re-start with Tiger. Once you get things sorted out, use something like Carbon Copy Cloner (free) to regularily back-up your boot drive for situations like this. Works for me. As always, if you have important, must-have data on the external drive you’re installing to, make a copy of it elsewhere as a precaution. Hope this helps.

I would hazard a guess that it is your household TV that is compensating for the luminance in your image. Personally, I wouldn’t adjust an image during production to try and overcome any shortcomings of consumer televisions. One item I’ve never regretted buying for my suite is a small, (13 inch Sony) but decent production monitor – it cost around $1,500 (12 years ago) but maybe you can get a good used one, if new is beyond your means.

Okay, I’ve answered my own question regarding using firewire to control the deck while using analogue component – it does work just as it did with Media 100i. That’s the good news. The bad news is that the new version doesn’t allow one to adjust the gain and set-up of the analogue signal going in. I like the fact that the built-in scope shows the playback levels, but it sure would be nice to have control over the signal going in.

I too am just starting to set up my new HDe system (Dual Core – 10.4.9 – 8 GB Ram). I use a Sony HVR M10 as a feeder deck and have found that the deck doesn’t respond well when trying to digitize using firewire. DV source tapes seem to work okay, it’s when the deck is set to convert from HDV to DV that the software doesn’t respond as it should. I have been able to get it to work, but I have to “trick” the deck/software which slows down the aquire process. I didn’t have this problem when i was using my G4 based system (Media 100i xs – 8.2.3a), although the difference there was that I was using component out/in and the firewire was used only to control the deck. I recall reading somewhere about not being able to use this same kind of set-up with the HDe system – am I correct? I haven’t yet connected the breakout box – Im still in the process of migrating over and have a couple of existing projects to complete before going HDe all the way. Anybody else using a similar set-up and have similar issues?

Maybe somehow your International preferences got changed. Open your System Preferences, select the Input Menu, and check to see what keyboard is selected (unless you have it set so that it shows in the menu bar). When I was using Panther it was a regular procedure to change the keyboard from Canadian to US whenever I booted up. It has happened since I installed Tiger, but rarely.
