I have made the change and it works.
I was getting crazy about this strange behaviour. I don’t know how I could have got out of this without your help.
Many thanks,

October 29, 2010 at 7:30 pm in reply to: Project change works in a script but not in an extension (?)Here are more details on what I have experienced:
– compiling an extension in .net 4 makes it not recognized by Vegas Pro 10. If I recompile it in .net 3.5 or below, then it is loaded at Vegas startup, and it appears in the Extensions menu.
– so it means that the extension needs to be built in .net 3.5 or below, and in my case, for the x64 target (and not x86), since I use Vegas 64 bits on Windows 7 64 bits.
– BUT, it looks like the .net framework 3.5 64 bits cannot be installed on Windows 7. When I try, the installer complains with a message which is not clear to me.
– AND when I compile my extension, I have a warning saying that the mscorlib.dll targets a different processor (I don’t have this warning when I am compiling with .Net 4 — only with .Net 3.5). This leads me to think that I don’t have a .net 3.5 framework in 64 bits.
– so, I wonder if it is possible to build extensions working on Vegas 64 bits under Windows 7 64 bits.
– however, what is strange is that my extension (.net 3.5) seems to work until I try to access to the Vegas project to modify it (reading data is find, but modifying them seems to be the problem).
Well, thank you if you have read me up to this point. Any feedback will be welcome. Especially if one managed to make an extension work on Windows 7 with Vegas 10 64bits, and if this extension modifies the Vegas project…
Thanks!

Thanks John for your answers!
Visual Studio Professional is approx. 900 euros, which is way too expensive for me and what I want to do (but I agree this is definitely a great tool). It’s too bad because most of my developments needs are fully covered by the free Express, except for this 64-bit stuff.
GCC works pretty fine on Linux, I have never used it on Windows. I should give it a try, you are right. However it will not have the cool debugging facilities provided by VS – but still better than nothing. Thanks! will let you know if it is not too nightmare to install it.

confirmation that VC++ Express 2010 only does 32 bit:

So any suggestion to make 32-bit OFX plug-ins work in Vegas 64 bit much much appreciated!!
Thanks,

Thanks anyway!
I have found an interesting document, I am currently crunching it and testing what I understand…
By the way, I am now a happy new Vegas Pro 10 user. Scripting is great!

Thank you John.
Actually I had already tried this, but it appears that this is not the date I am looking for: the CreationDate gives the data at which the file was created, which in my case is the date when the media finishes, plus a random number of seconds (I believe, depending on how busy the system is when recording).
The date I am looking for is the one when the recording actually starts, and which appears to be stored in the file, under the form of some kind of tag (browsing the web, I could see that this is part of the Broadcast Wave Format extensions to the WAV file format).
I believe I would have to grab some WAV parser code, but it would be so helpful if Vegas would expose the information through an API (since it has the information, as proven by the Property dialog box).

Hi Mike,
regarding scripts, it looks like you are quite frequently using them, and then, I guess, regularly developing your own scripts or at leats regularly modifying them.
Could you please give some examples showing why script are that great? I do understand the value of having the ability to script any application (like Word or CAD tools), but I don’t see for which kind of things it may help for video editing. I am sure I am missing something and would like to learn!! 🙂
Thanks,
Frédéric—

As far as I remember it has to be downloaded separately. When you purchase Studio online, you receive an email with a series of links including the free loops.

Hi,
It depends of which Vegas you use:
– if you use Studio, I think there is no way to automate
– if you use Vegas Pro, I think the 2 only ways are scripts as you said, and also Production Assistant.Frédéric
