  • You can create symlink named “Final Cut Archives” locally, pointing to the network share. Don’t forget to mount shared location.

    Hope that helps.

I must note that we don’t keep (at least, for now) our assets as fcp archives (walled garden) or images of cards ( I’m a bit paranoid about images – if the image gets corrupted then everything inside is lost). We keep copies of cards in dedicated folders. But i think the reason I could restore the project easily is that we haven’t changed the location of assets since import – they reside on a network backup drive. But, again, in case this drive “goes offline” and we have to use another back up for restore – I expect it to become more than two buttons click as it is now.

To test it, I’ve just rebuilt a random project from the archive. It worked fine.

I’ve taken the project and using the combination of “Relink Project Files…” for non-camera originated content and “Reimport from Camera/Archive…” recreated the whole timeline. Just like you, we backup the source camera cards as (reel) folders (not FCPX camera archives) and FCP was able to reimport. The original footage was XDCAM EX. The new Event is two times smaller than original. Still miss trimming…
Unfortunately, there seems to be no way to “help” FCP locate those cards (folders) in case you moved them to a place, different from what it was at the time of importing… except creating “Camera Archives”…

    Hope that helps

You should set Spatial conform of the clip in the Inspector to “None”. By default it is set to “Fit”.
    Hope that helps.

    Hi, Mike!

One of the answers is right by your hand. And it’s free! You can use your Mac built-in features to easily search through your footage.

    Here’s the template:

New footage goes into new folder (name folders as you prefer; It’s like the “Reel” name).

Corresponding descriptive text file goes into special folder (DB, Database or whatever). The name of the text file is “Reel name + Keyword of your choice (Place, Client name, Project name or whatever you want)”.
The content of the text file describes the footage it relates to.

Spotlight search this folder and you end up with the list of “reels” containing what you’re looking for. And don’t forget that you can search using several keywords to narrow the results even more:

    Hope that helps.

The same on my side. Really annoying to park the playhead at the beginning and not to forget to move it one frame forward. Correct me if I’m wrong, but it is also weird at the tail?

That’s exactly what I want to warn about. If you plan to output AAF, it’s better to postpone the update unless you’ve got plenty of time to substitute clips on your edit.

I’m am absolutely sure I am.
x2pro is ok. Projects that originated in 10.0.6 are parsed with no problem.
In my opinion the problem is caused by the way fcp updates the project, specifically regarding audio handling.

  • That will affect the background track as well, I think. In fact, it is not clear from Matt’s post wether he wants CC to be applied prior to Key or to the keyed video… If it’s a track 1.2 as he states, that means CC goes first. But at the same time he says “apply color correction fx to the keyed out host” which is different.

  • I have no avid by hand right now to try, thus I’m not sure if it works as expected, but you can try this:
Highlight all those clips (with gaps if there are gaps between the clips) and Alt+Double click your saved CC effect in a bin. It applies CC over your SM, but at the same time it will collapse all the clips into One, so you’ll have to manually restore the cuts or gaps.
