I have the same need. Here’s the rub. My local store in Los Angeles wrote back, “The round part is $62.86 and the other is $21.79, in stock, and they come with the screws.”
So that’s $84.65 plus time, tax and gas. I realize I have a $5,000.00 camera but “DAMN!” That’s the price of half a boom pole. I think I’ll just use gaffer’s tape! You know what I mean? many of those hot plate mic mounts are only half that price….

Thanks for the response.
As far as this being a AJA forum and not MOTU, yeah I understand. But this happened to be the only post on Creative Cow having to do with this device and it was pretty recent, so I jumped on. I’m sure you know that when people search the Internet and forums, it helps if related info is consolidated.
Since you seem to be affiliated with Creative Cow, maybe you can assist to move this to another forum?

Sorry, also another rookie question: what do any of these devices do? Why would I want a V4HD or a AJA Kona Card?

For straight transfer of video data, I don’t see where USB 2.0 would be a problem. That would allow you to keep your current configuration.
The idea of the laptop, being portable, and cards is that you could bring the MBP along on a shoot and download a card or cards, while you continue to shoot on another.
Or in your case, maybe you’re on the train ride back and you can sit down with your laptop and cards and download your footage from the day. This is very handy as you don’t have to bring out your camera and hook it up or your externals or any thing else. Either way/camera will require you to have an adapter though.
I think you need to consider your laptop as more of a laptop and not a desktop. Configuration changes to do downloads and then configuration changes for editing, one process/purpose at a time.
The next thing to consider is file format and codecs. For that, you’d better put in a lot of homework and really decide which you will be happier dealing with.
