I have tested this many times and the difference in ram preview performance with Multiprocessing ie multiframe processing on and off is very significant. Right now that is still the most efficient CPU rendering process.

Make sure you set the Multiprocessing on and include the ram preview for the multiprocessing.
You have 12 threads so set the ram usage to 1.5GB or 2GB per thread. The GPU’s wont effect the performance at all. Essentially that is a 12 Thread PC to work with AE so the performance is not going to be a major improvement over 4 Core/8 thread systems. Unfortunately I already see allot of editors getting burned by the 6 core because of the price differences. There is a big difference in Cache between the 6 and 8 Core and that will make a big difference with AE. I don’t really see any reason to get the 6 while the 10 and 12 are the chips you want especially for AE but at a price tag of a Dual Xeon system.

Yes you can work off USb3 drives but the latency is much higher. You wont get more than a few layers playback and expect a little latency in your response time.

January 28, 2014 at 10:29 pm in reply to: Quadra K4000 or the GTX 660Ti Which is Better for Premiere? The 660Ti would be far better performance. The Quadro would give 10bit color preview if you have the media and monitoring.

Atem unit with the Multiview monitor would probably be the cheapest solution.

January 10, 2014 at 5:23 pm in reply to: This is the best value for money Mac Pro configuration.I have tested AE with both single and dual 12 Core E5 V2 chips and the application will thread out to all 24 or 48 threads fine currently with CC. The only limitation to threading has to do with codecs/formats or FX. Some Codecs or Formats wont thread as well. The main problem child threading so far on Win platform is PNG however PNG threads fine with OSX. Some of the FX wont thread well but Adobe does not give a list of those. You have to test to find out. Many of the codecs such as Red R3d thread extremely well and require the greater threading for ideal performance. So this means the best configuration or the money spent is completely based on the workflow used. AE is not currently the limitation to the threading or ram allocation.

Likely the Parity is corrupted from bad blocks in the drive in those areas would be the most likely probability to me. As to how the parity information is corrected you would have to ask Intel or LSI. I just watch the logs that report from the web management consoles or error logs. If it says fixed then I assume it means it was fixed. Either way the raid integrity was maintained with the raid 6 in those cases where as the raid 5’s would fall apart in some cases.
I am not miss configuring raid 5’s when I create them nor am I failing to schedule parity checks. There is no magic formula or settings when creating a raid 5 volume. There is just the Console settings and initialization. None of the console settings other than Full initialization are going to effect the Reliability of the raid 5 volume. I am talking raid 5’s with enterprise drives only which include the timeout recovery option in the firmware. They are still unraveling and until I see greater reliability to rebuild with corruption or handle corruption than raid 6 I wont suggest it over 6.

Aja makes a device just for the 4K to 1080 conversion.

Gives them more incentive to not include this scaling feature with the I/O hardware.
You might try this Aja device and see if Premiere will scale via the Video driver to 1080 with this used as the output connectivity option. I would suggest you call Aja and see if they have tested that though.
