Very true. The linear Digital system we use only runs 3 layers but all FX, DVE, Keying, Titleing and Animation are all 100% realtime. That is why we still use it.

This is the type of performance I want to match?

So if anyone has any examples similar they would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the respone guys. Feel like I am finally getting somewhere.

With the system I am looking at editing 2 main formats.

    PAL SD (broacast not DV)
1080 HD (anywhere from HDV to SR (SR is obviously huge data rate))

Probably using the Decklink Pro HD card so all will be in 10-bit.

I am directly comparing it to a Similar window based Premire Pro system.

Also seeing if it is justifed to spend more money on a system like:

    Matrox AXIO
    Leitch VelocityHD
    Smoke
    DVS Clipster

This is the responce I seem to get from everyone. Even apple and the resellers. Grrr. Forgive my frustration. =)

Surely someone has a FCP system running and they can tell me what its performace is?

If you want, I am looking at Dual 2.7Ghz G5 with 2GB RAM, Professional Graphics card and Huge System Dual Fibre storage.

Thanks for the Advice. I actually put this post in the Final Cut Pro forum as well as I am considering a G5 as well.

But am finding it really hard to get a general idea of the performance of the any systems! And no FCP reseller in the area has a decent system.

I understand they dont do hardware FX and there are alot of variety of system configurations. But surely there is some general rule? Or if someone can let me know the perfomance of a systm they are running.

    Can anyone help?

    Denzel
