Great suggestion Foster. I’ve done a variation using foamcore sides…. which is more “directional”.

You could also do it with a half dozen heavily diffused, 1000w, 18″ scoops. At about $150 apiece (probably less on ebay) you’d be able to do it really inexpensively.
On the flip side, four 4′-0″ x 4 lamp Kino-Flo’s would be really sweet (and brainlessly easy)…. but pricey.DS

I would agree.
Get the 6kw (which you should also be able to lamp down to 3kw)….or just go with Kino-flo’s. The other options are a few Chimera lanterns (my choice), or “balloon lights”DS

ONE NOTE: You would find it very helpful if you put your self (and your table) 10 to 15 feet in front of your green screen. The separation will solve a lot of possible problems and will be your best friend.

Black COMMANDO CLOTH also works great and is cheaper usually.
Don’t forget white and/or silver surfaces are just as bad as any reflective surfaces (because they are reflectors). Avoid themDS

Make sure the KINO-FLO 4 bank units you purchase have dmx ballasts so you can control them from your lighting console. Depending on how big your greenscreen is you may need a few more to light your talent with fluorescents along with your greenscreen.
If the University has that much money you shouldn’t be worried about using theatrical fixtures instead of telvision fixtures. Train your students on the right instrumentation for the job. Also consider purchasing pole-op television fresnels for your students to use. It’s much safer, and more convenient and efficient.

If your competitive pricing has the various manufacturers all in the same cost range then you should buy the ARRI fixtures.
