If you have a CC subscription, you can update to the latest version of Premiere Pro which is currently 8.2. If you have a particular reason to be on 7.x, please update to the latest version of that which is 7.2.3 if memory serves.

Beyond that, try trashing your preferences. which you can do by holding down ctrl+option/alt when launching premiere pro.

Trash your preferences, clear your cache, make sure you’re not opening the last project, but opening to the splash screen to make sure it’s not the project that is a long load time.

Tough call, as both have their merits. A lot depends on what your budget is and if you care about the portability of a laptop overly much.

If given only those two options, I would lean towards the new MBP as it is just fun to have new stuff and it will certainly feel as fast as your current mac pro. Definitely get the max RAM (16GB) I think.

One option you didn’t mention that would be worth your consideration is a new iMac. They are sweet machines, can display 5k resolutions and have much of the power the current Mac Pro.

Well David, after a couple of years…we’re just going to have to agree to disagree! 😉

You’re one of the few guys that still bangs on this drum quite a bit. I respect that opinion (I really do), but given the comments from some users even in this thread, I think your opinion flies in the face of some facts. Subscription is a mutual agreement. You are not compelled to subscribe, but we do our best to make the toolset incredibly valuable to you. If you do subscribe the onus of innovation for David is up to Adobe. If we fail to meet your criteria (whatever it is), then you have the option to walk away. Both parties win and only you have control over maintaining that agreement.

Frankly, at this point, I know the above won’t convince you but I’ll hold out some hope!

I still need OS version (10.9.5 is recommended), version of Premiere Pro (8.2 just came out) and the bit depth of the uncompressed video file (if not 8-bit).

Couple of general housekeeping things you can try:
1 – trash your preferences
2 – clean your media cache
3 – disable automatic peak file generation
4 – Make sure your Memory settings are either the default (I think 11GB of RAM for 16) or less (you could put it to 8GB if you’re having difficulty)
5 – uncheck ‘maintain audio pitch while shuttling’ in case you’re doing a lot of that as part of your testing

If only pleasing customers were as simple as you describe! Unfortunately, it isn’t and neither is there any ease in developing for a complex and mature market such as non-linear editing.

I get and understand where you coming from and let me assure you that Adobe strives for that goal with every release. Seriously…

The reality is that a certain number of bugs will always be there for a program as complex and powerful as Premiere Pro. Anyone who tells you differently is lying to you. Premiere Pro is over 1 million lines of code and the overall stability of it is astounding.

To put that in perspective, I would wager that the ’20 bugs’ you point out as fixed were ones that you never personally bumped into.

The other half of the equation is that if we did not do features for a substantial period of time, our customers would be upset. There is a living contract if you will between Adobe and the customer due to the subscription nature of the business. If we stop innovating and fixing bugs, the customer can and will decide to opt out.

So yes, we fixed some bugs and we will always continue to do so. If we’re focused and consistent as we have been, we will retain and gain customers that are generally pleased with our progress and development. Comments like yours, while not fun for us, continue to keep us focused on ever greater stability with all of our products.

With tongue firmly in cheek ;-), let me suggest that we need a bit more to go on than a “fully loaded Mac”. OS, RAM, HD layout, version of Premiere Pro, bit depth and data rate of QT file, etc would all be helpful. Then we can hopefully give you a hand on where the problem lies.
