What exactly do you mean? I make my own picture frames in PS CS2 with a wood texture taken from a 3D animation program. Then I make 45 degree corners after cutting and pasteing. HTH

Don’t know which version but when I was using CS (now on CS2 and oh so much better for video) my memory allocation was 90% for PS. Sometimes the PC just doesn’t like PS and slows way down. Check all your settings, then exit and restart. Sometimes that helps. HTH.

I think Skye is on to something here!
The background used, whether blue, green or even red, is usually determined by the subject matter. I recently did some compositing where the videographer shot everything in front of a green screen. Blue would have really been better on the brown and yellow turkey puppet. Because this was shot with a HDCam and edited on smoke’s big brother fire, the Master Keyer was able to pull the key with a few added garbage masks. But a blue screen would have involved seconds rather than some long minutes. So find out what the talent/subject is wearing and get a background that doesn’t have any of those colors in it.
This doesn’t address the lesser resolution of DV but if you do a good separation and a slightly heavier back light as you said you would then the keying should be OK.

The HDW-F900 or HDW-F950 by Sony would be good cameras to shoot jewelry with, but close attention to proper lighting would also be important.

You might want to reference the HD High-End, HDV Format, and Panasonic P2 Cameras Forums on the Cow.What you describe has been done on US television using the Sony Z-1 HDV camera. Jody Eldred, a highly regarded Director/DP used it in a helicopter to get a shot when the HDCam wouldn’t fit.
As you say, the conditions for using it would have to be optimal, but it is do-able.

Most often that over the shoulder is a cover for a mistake in shooting and is the best cover possible. I find that in low budget shoots (and even higher budget ones) someone forgets to check continuity on a pickup and the resulting edit would be a jump cut from TS to TS or something similar. So they go find the looser over the shoulder and do the best they can. Sometimes time warping the shot makes the mouth closer to the actual audio. I get away with this about every 3rd time. Like the responders have said, do the best you can and let the rest go if the producer (or whoever is paying you) is happy. Editors, as a rule, try to give a project more than the producers ask for because we want it to be right. Sometimes you run out of sow’s ears to work with in making those silk purses.

Just to toss in a hand grenade…I saw 1 Beyond’s 3817 at NAB and it is a powerful puppy. Supports Avid Mojo and external storage allowing support for HD HDV, uncompressed SD and DV footage. Uses a 3.8 ghz processor with HyperThreading. Costs anywhere from 3-6 large but handles Avid & Adobe software. If a laptop is what you want to edit on this one is built for it. I’m not disparaging Apple but showing an alternative.

My experience on my dual proc 2.6Ghz P4 has seen speed improvements. I do use 80% of the RAM for Photoshop. What setting do you use on that? HTH

I’m afraid you won’t find a true NTSC broadcast monitor in your price range. A quick Google brought up a used 14″ Sony for $1200. It just came off lease. Used monitors are your best bet but I’d check them over personally to get one that’s truly pristine. You are right to look for an ntsc monitor but you’d be taking video out through a video card that has a bnc composite connector into the bnc connector on the monitor.
