Mark – I have the TV display set up on FULL. That does not fill the wide screen with a 4:3 image.
my image was scaled up to 16:9 in FCP (anamorphic SEQUENCE SETTING).

My SEQUENCE SETTINGS are:
Frame Size: 720 x 480 NTSC DV (3:2)
Pixel Aspect Ratio: NTSC – CCIR 601 DV…
Anamorphic 16:9 box is checked
Field Dominance Lower – Even
Editing Time base: 29.97
QT Video Settings: Compressor DV/DVCPRO – NTSC
Audio: 48khz, 16 Bit, Channel grouped

I set up DVDSP a long time ago. I’ve used it a million times with good results. Not sure where to find the bit and VBR settings. I looked in prefs but could not find. I’m sure I set up for 8 bit if that’s what you mean. Thanks.

Both TV & Computer. After DVD was burned it did not play well on either a TV or a computer. However the .mov that was made by FCP Export to QT Movie played well on the computer.

I’m interested in a used EX1R. On ebay they are selling for over $4,000 which I thought was a bit high. Thing is EX1’s aren’t selling for much cheaper: $3,500 and up and they have a lot more hours on them. Where are you seeing EX1R’s selling for $1,800 – 2,200 ?

You may just want to rent some lenses (renting lenses is pretty cheap), and then decide which one to buy after you run some tests. See the FS700 User’s Group on Vimeo, as they have samples and usually tell you which lenses they are using in those samples.

I never heard about the grey door being a pre-production model…but then again I never heard of a grey door for the SxS card slot either. Try calling Sony in New Jersey. So how do you like the camera’s performance? Have you experimented with the Hyper Gain settings yet? I have a EX1R and am curious as I may upgrade down the line.

XDCAM-EX records in 35mbps. XDCAM-EX cameras like the EX1, EX3, & PMW 320 record a maximum bit rate of 35mbps, (HQ). I believe XDCAM HD records HD422 at 50mbps. The XDCAM HD is optical disc based and XDCAM EX records onto SxS cards. However there is a new XDCAM-EX camera that now records HD422 onto SxS cards at 50mbps, (that cam is the PMW-200)

How did they bring the footage into the computer? XDCAM Transfer is a free download from Sony that converts the footage into FCP ready files.

I tried to select the HDV 1440 x 1080 in the, “Different output for edit to tape / print to video,” option but could not click on it, (it’s there but in a faded text which is not click-able).

I’m using a Sony HVR-M15 as my HDV deck. It’s on the HDV setting.

I originally did put some HDV footage (10 secs of black) into the timeline to convert the timeline sequence to HDV and then dropped in the XDCAM footage and it did convert to HDV. However the VideoPlayback does not convert to HDV so I can’t record out to HDV tape, (using the Sony HVR-M15 deck).
