Jason:
I understand the confusion as I’ve been 13-yrs in a row and still have trouble figuring it all out – even for our staff. Anyway, if you are interested in the motion classes (or others) focus on the Post/Production World packages. IF you are thinking about just a day, look a little lower and click on the Conference Training/Cert packages – they have a one day option as well. Any of these registrations will give you exhibits pass as well for the week. IF you don’t end up taking a class or registering for any of the packages/conferences but still want an exhibits only pass – DO NOT pay, you can get free passes from almost any vendor exhibiting or maybe your local resellers.
Hope that helps a little. -
Actually I really did mean “postage stamp” (or windowboxed) and not center cut. The beautiful situation where you have HD material, then downconverted & letterboxed it for SD, but then it was upconverted to HD and added the nice pillars. Nice workflow! Yikes!

I even noticed a national spot that ran right before the Superbowl in 4×3 SD which kinda blew my mind.
Teddy is so right, I couldn’t believe my eyes the other day to see a Disney spot on NBC Olympic coverage that was postage stamped and looked horrible! -
Have you taken a look at the Tricaster TCXD-300? Just a thought. Or have you considered the Panasonic AV-HS450 switcher? You may find both of these in a rental house. Also, while not terribly familiar with them, I know Focus Enhancements has a switcher in that type of small form factor. Rossvideo makes their Crossover switcher and you can find it as a single-form factor in the JVC line of switchers.
Not knowing your budget and if it would be a purchase or a rental, but this might give you a couple of ideas.
One last note, are we sure that the Z1 does a component HD signal out or is it just HD? I can’t remember if it has analog HD out.

You should consider Compix as a viable option. While not inscriber or chyron, it has add-ons for future growth and works extremely well. -
Understood Mark. We’ve been in demo phase with the EX3, Panasonic 300, and the JVC 700 (last two weeks). We just got the 700 yesterday (no SxS adpapter) and I just went outside and shot some stuff. I heard from my vendor today and he confirmed that the SxS adapter will allow you to record on the SD cards without the need for an SxS card in the adpater. So I feel a little better – but, I still haven’t heard from anyone who has actually done this and if the workflow was efficient. We are a mixed house (FCP and Avid) and this camera will be posted 90% of the time on the Avid – so an AMA workflow is desired. Anyway, good luck and keep us posted on how and if you end of buying the cams.

Chris:
Have you tried this process of using the SxS adapter and recording to the SD cards? Reading the manual seems that it can only be a “mirrored” record to both SxS and SD cards. I just want to confirm that it indeed works like a dongle as advertised at NAB, but absent in the literature/manuals. Thanks! -
I figured this out. Thanks to the people on NAPP forums. Although I don’t know what the heck I did to cause the issue, the fix was selecting the Reset Character option under the pull-down menu of the Character tab. Having fun learning my new CS3. 🙂

I also remember Avid saying that MC would support 10-bit while Xpress would only support 8-bit.
