Does that means recapturing 8+ hours of footage and matching it in the timeline?

I’ve shot a few live shows using the M-Audio Micro Track 24/96 <https://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/MicroTrack2496-main.html>. Uses flash media and records great stuff at a street price of $350. Sony owns MiniDisc technology and you will be stuck using their proprietary software in order to get audio off it onto the mac. Otherwise you are digitizing audio in real time. Total Sony pararnioa BS if you ask me. The M-Audio Micro Track is drag and drop. Use a good mic and set the levels properly and you can synch up easily in FCP. I love it.

Trash your compressor preference file in your User > Library> Preferences folder. Then repair permissions & restart.

I forgot to add the main part of my post above (Duh – it’s been a long day) – use the spectral analyzer to look at the waveform in STP. This should help you EQ and even isolate the trouble frequencies. Then you can EQ it sort of visually. This has helped me in similar situations.

This is EXACTLY what Soundtrack Pro is for. Scrubbing audio of background noise is an easy procedure, though the degree to which you can get it all out is different with each shot. Getting out an airplane that crosses the sky and dopplers through dialog is tough (for example – since I just dealt with this today). You can minimize it, but you’ll never get it out. Getting out low end rumble and consistent bg noise is pretty easy. Learn how to export to STP and you’ll fix this in no time.

  • This deck works great. Have been using the JVC SR-VS20u (same basic thing, earlier model) for 4 years. DSR 11 is good only if you need to capture large DV CAM tapes. Otherwise save the dough.

  • Different drives – different brands – different days – diferent firewire ports, front and back, and diiferent OS versions (all 10.3 at least). I believe this is a hardware issue – especially since there have been quite a few other people with G5’s that have this same problem over at the Appel discussion boards. Whenever I get a break from editing I’m going to have to take my computer in to get serviced. I have done everything from reinstalling the OS clean to running several Apple tech tools all to no avail. The real clincher was re-cutting a film that I edited last year on hard drives that I know worked with no auto dismount – on my old Dual G4. When I booted up the hard drives to start the recut (had to change music on the film for Royalty issues) after about an hour of working – the drive automatically unmounted itself and I got the dreaded “you shouldn’t unmount your drives like that … ” message.
