It’s happened to me once or twice too. There’s been a couple threads about it, I don’t recall anyone ever recovering the glitched multiclip. The only solution I’ve ever come to was to delete the multicam clip and create a new one, which doesn’t glitch.

Is going to be viewed on a projector? Many projectors have a “freeze frame” function.

So, for example you could put up an image, freeze it, then begin working on the next graphic immediately. When you unfreeze the new image will show. Then repeat.

Hi Jacob,

Yes that does function as you describe. The problem with that is my folder structure containing the original files also contains final export files, images, documents, baked-in effects, invoices etc. etc. which are all related to the specific job and each may or may not ever be imported into FCPX. We’ll call it the “job folder”. It basically has everything related to a job, except the FCPX generated Projects and Events folders.

If I “organize files” at any point, it will COPY all the original media to the events folder just fine. Then I have to meticulously copy ONLY the files in the job folder that were not ever imported into FCPX, over to the new drive. Making sure that I get everything related without forgetting any files, while also making sure not to waste harddrive space by copying over anything that was already copied by “organize files”. Then have the confidence to delete the job folder manually… I hate the feeling “did I get everything? better look over it all one more time, OK trash it, better open the project to check its all online before emptying trash…” It’s a nightmare, draining time and brain power.

My main concern is to eliminate potential for human error, then its reducing mouse clicks.

I’m thinking that I can just move the job folder to the external drive first, then go into FCPX and relink, then “move project with referenced events. Then everything will be in its place, low risk of forgetting a file, low number of clicks and media online if I ever open that project again. Not quite perfect, but if I want to keep my “job folder” organization in tact, I don’t see any other choice. It would be cool if you could set specific folders to be “related” to an Event, and then FCPX would have the option to include it in the Move command.

Of course Im always open to suggestions.

Maybe another program can export individual files from a chaptered .mov? QT7, handbreak, mpegstreamclip? Then you just have to drop chapter markers at the start of each clip, export and batch process.

Oh… and then maybe name each file one at a time…

If I understand correctly, you have a single timeline with several short sequences of clips edited together. You want to export each one of these edited sections individually.

You can use the range selection tool to export portions of your timeline. Just hit the R key and then select a clip or click and drag across multiple clips to set a range. Or you can just use the I and O keys to set a range. When you click the Share button, it will say “share timeline range” at the top. Exporting a range selected in the primary storyline will include any titles, connected clips etc. within the in/out points, not just the layer you selected. So you don’t have to worry about the connected broll shot and VO track not showing up in the range export because they weren’t “selected”.

Are setting the SC in the timeline or in the event browser?

I am unable to reproduce the problem on either 10.0.7 or 10.0.8. Using 1920×1080 clips on a 4:3 SD timeline, spatial conform set to fill or none. Then copy/pasting or option-dragging and changing the text of a basic title like a mad man.

Do I have that test right? Pasting a title as a connected clip sometimes reverts the spatial conform setting of the clip in the primary storyline?

FWIW we are on the exact same hardware but I have 16GB RAM and this system is still on OS X 10.8.2 and FCPX 10.0.7.

How about avoiding the spatial conform option all together and doing the resizing manually? Utilizing the timeline index should make quick work of it.

Not a very elegant solution, I know.
