Thanks for this glimmer of light shining through the edit tunnel, sure hope it is indeed on the way.

  • I have no experience with iMovie but I thought I read recently that it supports Prores LT, 422 and HQ. I could very well be mistaken though.

What version of FCPX? If I recall correctly, the tilde keys “override clip connections” function was introduced in 10.0.6.

I recently picked up a TR8M, just to house misc. bare drives I have around, for occasional access. If I need to edit anything from the TR8M drives, I will transfer the files to my actual media drive. Since my Mac Pro already had an esata card I didn’t need the included card. So I just tossed a couple two-bare-drive RAIDs in it, they both mounted and everything seems fine. Honestly, it has just sat on the shelf since the initial setup/test but it was very simple and I’m happy with it.

I figure a unit like this is fine for occasional access or light duty editing, but for full time, complex editing, make a budget for quality equipment.

August 1, 2013 at 3:26 am in reply to: A custom keyboard shortcuts iPad app, to hold us over

Bill is about to talk about keyboard shortcuts at azfcpug… in like 1 minute, for anyone interested-

  • [Zachary Potter] “I had programed using keypadPro”

Interesting, is that the same as Keypad Plus Pro by Dopplerthepom? Which is currently available.

So, you used it instead of the keyboard, not as a supplement to the keyboard? The thought hadn’t even crossed my mind. My initial thought was to setup a layout that covered my most used multi-key shortcuts that are on the right of the keyboard.

[T. Payton] “I think it needs to be much more than just a bunch of buttons thrown on an iPad”

I think you guys are right, I’m finding that the most use I get from this is actually just learning more actual keyboard shortcuts. Searching for functions to map to buttons on the iPad, but then still preferring to learn and use the keyboard instead. Now I’m thinking about making another layout to help me remember and learn more shortcuts. Similar to a KB Covers product, except with functions I don’t already know (love my FCP 7 KB Cover even if just for the feel and protection, now. Minimal signs of wear despite years of good use).

I’m just looking forward to see how Apple implements a controller app for FCPX.

I might as well copy/paste Johns post and use it as my own. Though I don’t own any FMU-128 units, just lots of 32GB UHD SDHC Cards.

I did have to send one NX5 in for repair after having it for about a year (one I bought used), it would turn on but was totally unresponsive. Its been fine ever since.

Buying from B&H is an excellent choice. Top notch customer service and return policy, just in case your not happy.

I’ve been eyeballing the Sony NEX-EA50 but it would probably put you over budget, I have a colleague who should have taken delivery of one about a week ago. Looking forward to checking it out in person and dropping some clips on a timeline.

Ah, very good then. Typically when someone mentions .mts files and “I’m new to this” in the same sentence, its likely they are copying just the .mts files and then formatting and reusing the cards. Just makin sure 🙂

Thanks Edgar, would you please post back here when the Logic Remote manual is released?

    Hi Richard,

I’m trying to figure out what exactly about FCPX made this project a pain for you. There are lots of ways to work, I’m sure we can figure out a workflow that suits your needs, for use in future projects.

I figure if you are cutting to the music, as many others have suggested in the past, place the audio on the primary. Edit in video as connected clips. Use secondary storylines to group sections of connected clips which will all stay together, anchored to a specific point in the audio. Or even make one big secondary as a “Track V2”.

Or if you want to stick with video in the primary, you can add a small gap clip to the start of the timeline to act as an anchor point, connect the audio to that. This way the audio is not attached to any of your video clips and it will stay put throughout the edit.

Sorry if I’m off track from what your saying.
