I would draw some geometry in Illustrator then cut and paste them onto a solid in AE. Apply 3d stroke and replicate them and zoom them etc. Trapcode shine will add an glowing edge ray effect.

There is a tutorial either on here or on videocopilot that shows you how to create a tunnel – you might want to use that to create the 2001 tube or just reflect a moving plane.

I would use Particular /3d stroke and then use glows /rays Shine to ad to the zooming effect.

Sounds like you’ll have to open your wallet and buy it – that’s what happens when a 30 day free trial expires.

My Quad core renders fine with Multiprocessor switched on and in some instances more than halves the render time. However in order to work on the project I switch the Multiprocessor off – otherwise I suffer from diabolical time delays waiting for the damn thing to preview.

    Adam –
You might have created it – or have seen it on the Cow – I am trying to locate a video tutorial where someone is rendering a logo (a Warner brothers logo) for After Effects keeping all the layers separate in order to colourise them. If you could point me toward it I’d be very grateful.

    Hi Dave

In yourpost you suggest: I think you’re far better off using AE’s multiprocessing capabilities, if you have enough RAM to make it worthwhile.

    How does one do this?
I have my RAM set to 30% which is supposed to be the fastest configuration (I read it in a post on here some time ago).

I have 6GB of RAM – and my independent Apple supplier reckoned if the project file is in the Raid disk and I rendered to the HD this is the speediest way of rendering. (Or is this advice the equivalent of sending out the apprentice carpenter to buy a glass hammer?)

    Thanks.

    Hi Lance
I tried the previous respondants suggestion and it worked. I don’t want to freeze the footage being processessed through the effect – just the effect itself.
    Many thanks for your help
    Regards
    David
