  • I just did a Save as… in MPEG Screenclip and so far so good. The “save as” only took about 10 seconds for a 226 MB file. Now, I have to get my user to test on his Android device. If it works, Shane just saved me about 80 hours. (Now, I feel bad I never got around to buying Shane’s tutorial video back in the FCP 7 days. I meant to, really.)

    Thanks,
    Dave

  • [Charlie Austin] “have you tried simply changing the file extension to.mp4?”

The extension is already .mp4 which was exported from Compressor using the x264 codec, so that can’t be the problem. But, I just got home so I’ll try Shane’s idea and see how it goes.

    Thanks,
    Dave

  • No way dude!

As soon as I get home I’ll give that a try. If it works, that will save me having to go back and re-export 75+ 40 min videos from FCX (see what I did there) and then have to completely re-encode them.

Do you see much or any generation loss doing it this way?

    Thanks,
    Dave

[Jeremy Garchow] “If you want to double your budget, Screenflow is well worth it.

    https://www.telestream.net/screenflow/overview.htm

You can edit, title, even key green screen in it if you want. It also records audio.”

What he said. ScreenFlow and Disk Warrior are the two best $100 purchases I’ve made in the last few years. ScreenFlow support is excellent too.

March 11, 2014 at 7:07 pm in reply to: FCPX 10.1.1 Consolidating used portion of clips only

    [Simon GM Li]
My question is; How do I consolidate my media in FCPX 10.1.1 so that I only copy/consolidate the actual part of the media I have used.”

I know this isn’t the answer you’re looking for, but I do this outside of FCPX in QT7 before I even open Final Cut. It doesn’t work for all usages of clips, but if you have a general idea of what you need before editing, it works fine. Then, sometimes I keep the original set of clips, but sometimes I don’t if the rest of the clip is junk.

February 25, 2014 at 8:55 pm in reply to: Mavs 10.9.2 released

If this thread at Slashdot is correct, the bug not affect users of 10.6.8 (but I would assume most of you are on 10.9 by now-
    https://apple.slashdot.org/story/14/02/22/2143224/apple-ssl-bug-in-ios-also-affects-os-x

A lot of it is above my head, but it seems to make sense. A couple of quotes:

“Snow Leopard (10.6) is not vulnerable to this bug, since Apple did not switch from OpenSSL to their own SSL/TLS library back then yet. Just verified on my 10.6 box (to verify visit https://www.imperialviolet.org:1266/ )”

“10.8.5 isn’t even effected, why would any previous version be? This is strictly an iOS 6.x, iOS 7.x and Mac OS X 10.9.x bug.”

I tried Firefox, Chrome, and Safari 5.1.9 in 10.6.8 and the page wouldn’t load. How this is or isn’t connected with the “Man In The Middle” (MITM), I have no idea.

February 16, 2014 at 6:06 pm in reply to: FCP X destroys my audio

[alban egger] “I recently had a similar issue with audio peaks AND video glitches when I encoded some h.264 files I got from an agency into Windows Media (it was supposed to play in a Digital Signage system). After Effects, Edius and MPEG Streamclip on the PC failed.
I then tried MPEG stream clip and QT7 on the Mac side of my studio. No chance to get them clean. And MPEGStreamclip doesn´t fail very often!”

    Alban,

I had a similar problem, but opposite result with video last year. I had one user on my website with a newer Android device that couldn’t view any of my video. I first thought it might be a Flash Player problem or an issue with HTML5 video, but he couldn’t even get the .mp4 video to play on his Android when I just sent the file over.

I typically use the x264 codec, so I then tried straight .mp4 exports from Compressor, FCPX, and QT7, but none would work for him. I then tried an export from MPEG Streamclip using x264 and he got it to play. He’s the first and only user that has reported this problem, but it does seem odd.

February 11, 2014 at 7:27 am in reply to: 4K might become a reality quicker than we think

    [Jeremy Garchow]
[Mark Raudonis] “We used 4k (Sony f 55) to shoot interviews this season for one of our reality shows. The creative called for TWO people on camera and we were able to use the extra pixels for “Punch ins” on closeups of either cast member. One frame equals THREE angles: WS, CU left cast, CU right Cast. Worked great and was actually a cost SAVER for us. One camera rental not three. One file not Three. I could go on, but the point is, 4K acquisition is a smart tool in the right circumstances.”

4k acquisition is a great tool for oversampling HD, and this is how we use it, currently.”

What a cool thread this is! For my meager tutorial needs, I don’t need more than 720p at the moment, but the thought of pan and zoom with 4k footage in a 720p timeline is very cool. It will be some time before I can afford a luxury like 4k, but I already like the idea of it.

February 2, 2014 at 6:34 pm in reply to: FCPX reads footage wrong

[Sascha Engel] “I see that X reads those specific cards as 25i”

    Sascha,

I have no idea if yours is the same issue as I had 2 years ago, but here is the original post about my similar problems with Canon footage-
    https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/344/6302

I would think this would have been fixed by now by Apple and/or Canon, but since I use still use ClipWrap, it’s a non-issue for me. Hopefully, someone with more current info can chime in here.
