Thanks guys, this is a great help.

The video file was edited by myself in Adobe Premier. Can I choose which codec Premier uses to render out the file somehwere inside the programme? Currently, when the edit is as I liike it I’m just hitting File > Export Movie. Unlike AE, Premier doesn’t seem to have an ‘Output Module’ so I can’t see where I’d give specific instructions for the codec etc.

And, Darby said that the sample rates were ‘wierd’ for video. What should the sample rates be and how do I change them? In the output settings when the video is rendered out presumably but…see above.

OK, the audio is coming from both the video layer – which is basically a talking head – and from a seperate audio layer which is providing some quiet background music.

The only information I can gather from the project panel relating to audio is as follows:

The video layer is an AVI – 32.000 kHz / 16 bit U / Stereo.

    The music layer is .WAV – 44.100kHz / 16 bit U / Stereo.

    Thanks,

    Dave.

I once created an animation where a playing card was rotating and spinning around etc. It’s a similar thing.

To acheive the playing card I took 1 jpeg of the face and 1 jpeg of the back. I made sure they were identical in size and shape in Photoshop then brought them into my AE composition and pre-comped them. In the pre-comp I made them both 3D layers and copied the position of one to the position of the other. This essentially placed both jpegs in exactly the same spot. Then, I moved the back layer a few pixels in Z space and parented the back layer to the face leyer.

Now if you spin, rotate or pretty much do anything to the face layer the back layer does the same. (As long as the anchor point of both layers is also in the exact same position.) The two layers essentially move as one, two sided object. And, because I pre-composed it, I could move the whole thing around as one object in the main composition.

I don’t really know if it’s the ‘right’ way but it worked for me. It may help.

    Thanks for the reply Steve.

I’m still pretty new to all this so, if you don’t mind, where would I find this information?

Thanks Darby. Woah! It’s complicated – I knew it would be.

OK, So I have a Dell Dimension 9200 which is running on Windows XP Professional, Version 2002 – Service Pack 2.

I believe this information relates to my processor: Intel(R) CORE 2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz. 2.39GHz, 2.00 GB of RAM.

Judging by your advice it seems that the most I can do is upgrade the RAM to 4 GB. Then I can attrinbute 3 GB to AE and have one for the OS. Does that sound about right?

I thank you in advance for excusing my laughable lack of knowledge in this area.

    Cheers,

    Dave.

There were definitely changes. A LOT of mucking about with the menus – they were being continuously re-designed and changed. So, does this take its toll on the transitions then? You’ll have to excuse me here, I’m not all that clued up on Encore (like you hadn’t guessed!).

    Thanks Jeff,

Unfortunately the deadline came and went so the DVD will be duplicated sans transitions. I didn’t really have time to check out your solution but I will try it when I get a minute – I’m sure it will work and it’s definitely good to know for future projects.

    Many thanks,

    Dave.
