The video itself takes an inordinately long time to load too for a file that’s identified as 15.5MB. The load time I’m seeing is even slower than any issues that might be related to Fast Start.

I tried this on 2 Macs and 1 Windows box in Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer. I have a very fast internet connection in which it normally takes seconds to download a file of your size. In fact I tested my speed while I was attempting to download your video to make sure there wasn’t an issue on my end. Generally I can download a file up to 3.6MB a second and on the slowest servers/long distance connections thousands of miles from me I still get about 250KB a second.

Someone else might want to double check the above links but it seems your description matches my experience.

I can’t help but believe you have a server/host related issue.

Good to hear. People are often intimidated by DVD Studio Pro because it’s very powerful. It can also do simple things too though.

But I would be concerned if someone states that an NLE is not seeking to support a format because they don’t think the demand will be high when it comes to a camera like the EX1. In many respects I consider support key to the viability of an NLE. This position can eventually devastate an NLE.

That’s why I’m interested in Telelstream/Flip4Mac Pipeline. Of course you can edit the SDI out as 4:2:2 10 bit uncompressed but I’m thinking it will be less taxing on my system resources if I can realtime convert to DVCPro50 or IMX50. My ideal is edit in SD and autoassemble in HD as needed (and avoid time consuming HD to SD downconvert in software).

Flip4Mac Pipeline may be able to convert SDI out, which is 4:2:2 to DVCPro50. Now I know, of course, that if coming from the card is going from 4:2:0 to 4:2:2 “uncompressed” of the SDI so that’s not going to be the same as 4:2:2 source. On the other hand “live” out of the SDI is before MPEG2 gets its hands on things and that would be 4:2:2 from the source.

At least coming from the card one is still going to end up with realtime downconvert to DVCPro50 4:2:2 so one can composite without any further issues (compared to 4:2:0).

Bill, I emailed you settings that are a mod of what I used last year to pass DG DropBox. They changed some things so I haven’t tested the mod but if you email back their comments if it fails I can work with you on this.

I’d thought I’d note that DSR-450 is a 2/3″ CCD chip camera so I’m not surprised its SD looks better than the 330 in many cases.

If I downconverted from EX1 it would be to 4:2:2 (DVCPro50, IMX50 maybe) not DVCam (4:1:1) so that might not make any difference superficially but I that might help if one is compositing in SD.

I’ve heard from other XDCAM users that 18mbps is so poor that “no one” really uses that.

We “KNOW” that Panasonic is going to have Intra on their next camera (my gut tells me). I kinds miss the days when one got a good BetaSP rig and was set for a few years.
