John, thanks for the detailed method you used. Looks great! Must have taken a while to prepare for me. I appreciate your time. I’ll start tonight and am sure the client will be pleased. Don’t hesitate to ask for a major organ should the need arise.

Thanks for the input. I wish I had time to play with color, but I’m not home and I’m using the internet tethered to my smart phone. I’m a million miles in the middle of no-where and need to be done before I leave this weekend. I’ll save color for another day unless I can get a blow by blow workflow. For now, I’ll give one of the plug-ins a go.

It was the S-Video output that was failing. Sony’s manual suggests that it’s the better connection. I used the old school composite connection and bingo. Pretty edgy looking stuff though and I don’t think it’s a connection issue, just a 20 year old VHS shot with a marginal camera. Thanks for all the great suggestions!

The manual shows a graphic and illustrates the steps to take. It seems pretty straight forward but shows now preference to S-Video or old school connections. I may try the RCA connectors when I get back to my desk as well as what Chris suggests and post results. Thanks to all for your input.

I tried different combinations of plugging and unplugging the cable and no….there is no picture in the camera viewfinder. I toggled around with different settings there also with no luck. I tried different output cables from the VCR thinking maybe I had a corrupt cable. No difference.

No way to predict what newer versions of FCP will hold. I have FCP7 and was hoping that the newest FCP release would evolve to become more Blu Ray friendly. They have decided to go another route. With that in mind, a BluRay can be made using an external drive and Toast 10 with some work arounds. The menu’s are really not great but I am extremely happy with the viewing results of my Blu Ray endeavors. Search the posts. All your answers are here somewhere. Good luck.

You probably need an external Blu Ray burner if you haven’t replaced the mac internal drive with one. Many are out there and for about a hundred or so dollars. Beyond that, what you are trying to do is a bit more involved than popping in a blank Blu Ray and getting it to burn a Blu Ray movie. You could get the info you need if you give some specific info on what you are trying to do.

Hello again. Tried all the great ideas everyone had but the final output looks like doggy doo. I may have made a capture mistake that I put in a previous post but didn’t get a reply. Here it is again…The capture settings on the iMac are usually set to DV NTSC 48K Anamorphic and that works pretty good for most everything we do here but this time it had been set to HDV-ProRes 422 and I didn’t catch it. Would that make a notable difference in the HD video being moved down to SD? If you think it would, should I re-capture to something else? Thanks.

Thanks Stephen. I did that same workflow up to the send to DVD studio pro. I tried a few times to drag assets to Toast..Not so great.. I’ll give your idea a go tonight and post results.

I appreciate your info. Much to consider. I typically burn nothing but blu ray so picture quality is strong. I did notice another mistake I made. I typically have capture settings set at dv ntsc 48k anamorphic and I switched from my MBP on this project to my iMac and didn’t see the capture settings had been changed to HDV-prores 422. I’m not sure if that would have a negative effect or not since I don’t use it much. I thought about what you said and blew away all filters, ran through compressor and re-burned. Still looks like crap. I don’t think it’s the filters. Any ideas?
