I’ve actually found it to be more stable in Lion. Although I’ve had a couple of weird crashes tonight, at least Premiere is saving my project before the crash (I’m typing this as my project reloads). When I was working on Snow Leopard, it would crash often and not save most of the time.

Thanks. I finally found them. Lion made it a little more difficult to find the library folder than I was used to (I’m new to Lion).

That’s kind of what I figured just as soon as I hit send. I’m really regretting moving over to Premiere and Boris. It’s been nothing but disaster and disappointment. I really wish Boris would pull it together and make their (expensive, fully paid for) software work across all platforms like it should. That fact that none of their “transitions” actually work as transitions is baffling and they apparently don’t seem the slight bit concerned with that. I mean, it works in FCP and they work in Premiere for Windows. They apparently even work in Vegas. But getting functional transitions to work in Premiere Pro 5.5 on Mac is bizarrely low priority. Boris for Premiere is like buying a car and not being given the wheels, but the dealer just keeps saying, “We’ll get them to you eventually.” The fact that you have to check a matrix of compatibility just to see if what you paid for will work seems more like treating us as game show contestants or gamblers than paying customers. I’m really starting to regret my purchase.

Tom, I’m going to ask what might be a stupid question… but how are you using Red 5 with PrP 5.5 on a Mac? I’ve been able to find no support for such and I’ve been patiently waiting (although my patience is running extremely thin). Even on Boris’s site, they list Red 5.0 support for Premiere on Mac as PrP 4 only. 5.5 support seems to be limited to Windows only. Is there a release/update that I missed over the holidays?
Please, I DESPERATELY need to know.

Yeah, it’s really been frustrating, especially when I can see them all in the filters folder, but they can’t actually be properly utilized in an edit. I thought maybe there was something I was missing (like moving those plugins to a different folder where they would actually be seen and act like transitions). It just seems bizarre to me that neither Boris nor Coremelt properly houses and handles their own transitions in Premiere/Mac.

No, I get that and look forward to it’s eventual release (and the Boris support team I spent 30 minutes on the phone with yesterday seemed to have no real info as to how close we might actually be to that), but until it’s ACTUALLY released it doesn’t really solve my problem or answer my question. Why, in both Boris and Coremelt, are the ‘transitions’ housed in the filters folder where they can’t actually be utilized as transitions? They operate properly in Final Cut 7, but not in Premiere. That tells me that they’re broken and this break needs to be addressed. I’m not asking for a new plugin that creates Pixar level animations automatically… I’m just looking for something very basic and elementary to work as it’s supposed to in a product I’ve already paid for.

Thanks for the tutorial Ann, but unfortunately, something that takes 4 minutes to do when it could just as easily be done with the drop of a transition in 3 seconds doesn’t sit well with me as “easily done.” The fact that someone would even have to go to the extent you have had to to create what is one of the most basic transitions in editing really shows the how horrible and lacking Adobe is when it comes to filters and transitions, especially on the Mac side.

Yeah, when I got it from Apple I was really exclusively Final Cut and it seemed appropriate. I have 6 2GB 1066MHz DDR3 EEC cards with 2 empty slots. How much would you recommend?

I do have an 8 core with 12GB of RAM. While Aja does have other problems, this isn’t one of them, meaning it CAN work. Blackmagic needs to step it up and make the fix.
