    yea, stay away from single colors and low cri lights. Colors come from high cri and broad spectrum colors. the blue saturation clipped before the white did. the blue-blue is in inside channel mixers. sometimes ir filters can help, sometimes nothing can if using solid gels. there’s just no info reflecting into the camera.

    that may be infrared taking over. you can try color mode transfer and levels white output to clip the chroma, but the cri levels probably washed out the rgb codes. might have to do some masking or even painting. probably better to key to white and add glow if low on time. channel mixer might help overall balancing too. blue channel blue-blue

    check the adobe crash logs or try rendering an image sequence. either will tell you where it crashes at. could be a corrupt video or plugin at that particular area. also, could be heat related. try a stress test program.

    BT1886 can be a problem on displays with lifted blacks, due to the way it raises gamma in the shadow region. This causes the shadows to become washed-out, which in turn will cause the colourist to attempt to grade the shadows darker. When the graded footage is then viewed on a display with a standard power law gamma, or a display with a lower black and calibrated to BT1886, the shadows will appear crushed.

    im 99% sure even my last correction slider can be fully automated. I just haven’t touched it because it works and I don’t want to break it. I originally tested the template on archive.org train footage that was very flickery and it worked really well.

    I haven’t made a video because its free and you get technical support once every 6 years, lol. i might have time sometime this week for a 60 sec. walkthrough. in the meantime, right click replace video.avi with your footage. there is a hidden text layer in final output comp(de-hide with hide button) that has a number that displays lower right.

    you want the gamma clamp slider to make that number ~25 so that it averages 25 every 30 seconds or so. this has something to do with the shadow pumping required to fix really bad footage. a lot of this was tricky because there’s no direct math working here, it’s more art than science as I stumbled on the right logarithmic code through pure trial and error.

    yes, the black becomes the signal as there’s no alpha channel. it’s called padding.

    1. HDTV is always square pixels(that’s the standard). You don’t need to worry about PAR unless making graphics, text, in non- standard resolutions with anamorphic lenses or SDTV/DV.

    2.PAR only works if the NLE or playback device supports it. I like to think of it like color management; it only works if its interpreted correctly.

    3. some older video codecs may not support odd number pixel resolutions. that’s just a programming deficiency, not a rule. and Jeff is right, burning in black padding is the safest and most common form of broadcast widescreen, but it won’t work on streaming sites like vimeo or when creating a DCP.

    aspect ratio and pixel aspect ratio are two completely different things although they are related.

    pixel aspect ratio is the pixels being schmooshed like anamorphic lenses. they are also known as the PAR of non-square values not 1:1.

    Aspect ratio is a combination of all three factors.

    Aspect Ratio = (Horizontal Resolution / Vertical Resolution) × Pixel Aspect Ratio
