  • [Jamie Franklin] “This doesn’t wash. A 1.0 release doesn’t excuse leaving a 54% marketshare where they were 2 days ago or having to go elsewhere…”

I’m not sure I understand what the problem is with leaving (some of) their users where they were two days ago while continuing to add features to FCP X that will eventually allow those users to move over.

[Peter Blumenstock] “Which is why they had to delete all of them, right. “

They appear to have disabled them (no new ones are showing up), not deleted them, presumably so they didn’t have to keep policing them on an ongoing basis.

[Peter Blumenstock] “Seriously, here we have a company that cannot even accept negative feedback from its customers.”

There’s a big difference between accepting negative feedback, and letting your own store become a vehicle for misinformation about your product.

[Scott Sheriff] “How hard could it be?

We f%$#ed up. FCS3 is now back in the store. We will continue to develop and sell FCP X for those that like it.

That took me less than :30.”

Major corporations don’t work that way.

[Jamie Franklin] “I just think it’s fair to say: these features might not be returning…they were dropped.”

It’s not as if Apple had these features and ripped these features out and deliberately discarded them. That would make it unlikely they’d ever return. But FCP X is a new app, which has never had implementations of these features. For them to exist there, Apple has to implement them from scratch there. Which takes time.

  • [MIke Guidotti] “Apple does not care about broadcast and film professionals and artists.”

Because a handful of features are missing from a what’s effectively 1.0 release? People need to cut it out with this overly dramatic nonsense.

[MIke Guidotti] “Is this a surprise from a company who’s stock is more overvalued than Enron once was?”

Take another look at Apple’s P/E. AAPL is badly undervalued on the basis of current earnings and growth trends.

[MIke Guidotti] “The real question is why isn’t Apple defending itself?”

Even if Apple decided to deliver a formal response to all of this (which would be very unusual for Apple, but did happen with, for instance, the iPhone 4 antenna firestorm last year), it’s far too early; they’d need to take a week or two to figure out what they wanted to say.

[Byrd Mcdonald] “That anyone can defend apple right now is an amazing bit of evidence that Mac fanboys lack critical thinking skills.”

So are you claiming the App Store wasn’t full of factually inaccurate reviews, or are you claiming it was unreasonable of Apple to object to factually inaccurate reviews?

  • [Aindreas Gallagher] “I’ll tell my gas bill that.”

Has your previous software stopped working? No. Were really you going to move all of your projects to a newly rewritten NLE the first day it shipped regardless of what (remotely realistic) feature set it offered? Probably not.

This whole “Apple is screwing with my livelihood” line makes no sense if considered in even the slightest detail.

[Alan Okey] “In less than 48 hours this has become a bonafide PR disaster for Apple, and for once they deserve every bit of the negative press they’re getting over this. Their deletion of purchaser comments from the Mac App Store just shows their level of desperation as things spin out of control.”

Not to put too fine a point on it, but what goes on in this (and similar) Internet forums is just not nearly as important, or as representative of the larger market, as you’re making it out to be.

Ahh, I do see that. I flipped through some reviews last night and noticed that many highly ranked negative reviews were flat out wrong, and were claiming the app couldn’t do things that it can in fact do, apparently because people hadn’t bothered to figure out the new UI. I’m guessing the removal might have had something to do with that. Negative reviews are one thing; negative reviews that factually misrepresent the app’s capabilities are another.
