Guess Apple only planned for good reviews. Probably never tested the database with poor reviews because, well, why would they…?

Well let this be a lesson to the almighty Apple that sometimes secrecy isn’t the best way forward then. A lot of this could have been prevented had they let somebody know what is and is not in this package before its release, yes? Apple is not without blame when it comes to these crappy reviews.

Yeah. I gotta say, I came to Avid from Speed Razor, Incite, and a very old version of Premiere Pro. It took me a while to get my head around Avid, I’m not gonna lie to anybody. It’s a different animal. But now that I’ve been using it for a decade, I won’t touch another system unless I absolutely HAVE to. It’s become so second nature that it’s like an extension of my two hands.
Avid has recently begun to make mousing around more accessible for people who like to use their mouse. It’s driving the long-time users crazy, but new users will probably appreciate it. At least Avid is listening to their current customers (while trying to appeal to new customers) and are making it easier to disable the damnable “smart tool” which I’m sure is meant to appeal to FCP and Premiere users.
They listen, and the software is pro to the core. Always has been and always will be.

That $999 includes the entire suite of Avid 3rd party apps: Squeeze 7, Boris Continuum Complete 7, Smart Sound 5, Sonic DVD and Boris FX. Not bad, actually. Plus the peace of mind knowing that you’ll be working with a truly “pro” app that will continue to be “pro” until the end of time or the company goes bust, whichever comes first.

Cheaper, but not by much. It comes down to preference, I suppose. I’ve always been an Avid guy and find it to be like an extension of my hand.

Roger that. I’m sure they’re not happy, though. And Apple’s typical disdain for the needs of others is not a happy situation. If I was a vendor supporting Apple products it would make me think twice about my capital expenditures in the future.

Maybe so, but if FCS pros jump to Avid, even 1 to 3, instead of to Premiere, then that’s a huge share of their market gone. Unless Avid gets off their azz and opens up to all the vendors (which, btw, could be happening from the rumors I’m hearing).

Nope, spot on.

June 22, 2011 at 8:10 pm in reply to: Apple has not abandoned you. Good read for the naysayers 🙂Buddy, since you’re a compositor and not an editor, how would you feel about AE if they removed the ability to key green, say? That’s a pretty important feature that you’d find hard to live without, I imagine. Same thing here. Key features gone. No promise or even hint of when or if they might be back.
