September 18, 2014 at 4:13 am in reply to: Premiere Pro Media Manager not trimming interlaced filesHey Tony
I have not heard about issues with interlaced footage, but there are issues with Long-GOP footage if that is what you are editing with. Premiere (to my knowledge) does not currently consolidate files that use Long GOP codecs. I recently had to convert XDCAM HD files to another format (DNxHD) then use project manager to get it to work.
This partly solved my issue as it did then create new shortened clips, but it missed a couple of shots entirely so I had to export a few manually. Also, when converting i first tried ProRes 422 which should work, but it failed to reduce those clips so thats why I went to DnxHD codecs.
Project manager is not particularly consistent from my experience, but that may soon change as I have seen the same info as you regarding new updates to this from Adobe.
Cheers.

Yep. AVID does indeed boot up if you connect a headset with mic, but does not need to be an iphone headset as an old sony one worked for me.

It fails to load and displays a “failed to initialise audio hardware” message every time you try to launch it.
There are a few others on the AVID forums who have this issue as well so don’t think its just a problem on my machine.

April 28, 2012 at 4:52 am in reply to: Multiple video formats to Avid: AMA or transcode?Yeah, 5400 drives certainly won’t help you there. 7200rpm has always been the recommended minimum and, really, the faster the access the better! …of course, we don’t all get to pick and choose our budgets though 🙂
As for the AVCHD, you could always create high res versions in FCP to create new masters to use however you want to in AVID. Also, if you do go the AMA route, you can re-link a sequence to the original AMA clips from low res transcodes.
Thing to keep in mind if you do this is that if you low res AMA transcoded media goes offline for some reason, it is tricky getting it back on-line, as there is no real (that i know of) connection between the two, so if you just re-transcode from the AMA media it won’t make the missing media come online again as its created an entirely new clip. You may be able to select transcoded media and batch import it, but i think you have to specify which clip to link it to as, as its transcoded material, it has no memory of an external link…so if lots of stuff goes offline this can be a bit of a pest having to do it manually one by one…..

April 21, 2012 at 9:40 pm in reply to: Multiple video formats to Avid: AMA or transcode?Hi Abigail.
From the sounds of it you have a whole lot of footage so I would suggest using a native AVID DNxHD codec. You could just re-wrap your pro-res files into MXF pro-res, but Avid generally performs better with its own codecs, so for a big project it might eventually bog down a bit compared to DNxHD media.
However, as its Pro-res Proxy media and quite small anyway it’s possible that wont be such an issue, but maybe some others can advise on that.
Also, If your going to up-rez in avid later, do some tests with AMA to make sure everything will re-link properly at the end. Otherwise you can import media rather then using AMA>transcode…though this does take longer.

December 6, 2011 at 11:37 pm in reply to: Switched to AVID want to move the attic off my SSDHow have you set up your user account?
After a recent SSD upgrade and fresh install of everything I changed the location of my home folder to a separate HDD, so my user accounts are now not on the SSD system disk. Can’t say I have really looked for the attic yet (not needed too), but in theory it should all go automatically to the alternate drive where all the user accounts now reside.
