Yes, the sony is leaps and bounds above the HVX….in picture quality and in overall build. once you use one it’s hard to use anything else with the rotatable handle, the hard stops on the focus ring (Panasonics focus ring is a joke.) you can achieve the HVX’s look quite easily in post, and it will look much better from the ex1 because of the vast resolution difference

You have to download software in order for the express card slot to read SXS. You can find it for free. I can’t remember what the software is called but if you google it you’ll find it.

Assuming you are both using FCP, bring the clips into a timeline, export the the timeline using the XDCAM codec and burn it to a DVD (or BluRay)…..unless you want to spend several hundred dollars on SXS cards just to mail back and forth

Are telling me I still need the clip browser software?

Once I log and transfer, the solid clips show up in the capture scratch folder and i can move them around and view them without FCP or Clip Browser….providing back up, correct? Please, please correct me if I’m wrong as I am new to the XDcams myself.

I highly recommend downloading the FCP plug-in which allows you to use Log And Tranfer in FCP….rendering clip browser unnecessary. I love it, here’s the link:

I would recommend you get an external digital audio recorder. audio that goes into a video camera is extremely compressed. You should never use the audio from a camcorder. the difference between the two is truly night and day.
