I like how you push a button and it blows blue pixie dust out of the vent.

I’m sure if I had a screen like that i’d figure out how to use it. Although, people really complained about the Touch Bar on the MBP, but maybe if it’s a bit bigger. The touchpad on the right of the computer is interesting. That could work well. Very innovative design.

[Jeremy Garchow] “If you have SNS EVO storage they have written a utility to collect the proxies generated by the server for editing use.”

FCP X Proxies are still rather large in file size. I would love if Frame.IO ACTUALLY decided to become a collaboration tool and not just a client comment tool. This is what I would want from a online collaboration tool:

Take FCP X Project and generate highly compressed proxy media (H.264) with customizable trim handles. Automated upload and download of proxy media. Generate an XML file that automatically relinks media files to proxy media. And when returning project, XML relinks to original media. Package Motion Templates used. I don’t know why this isn’t within the realm of possible.

  • Bob, I don’t think Coronavirus could stop you!

Of course nobody really NEEDS to go to NAB. So that might be the reason people won’t go. At least the bars won’t be crowded when you go.

  • Bob is being tongue in cheek here. And obviously him running around with a fever from whatever ilness is not the same as Coronavirus.

Remember the 1918 flu? My family tree is forever different because it killed a great-grandfather of mine. I suspect most families have stories from that flu. That had a death rate of 2% and a transmission rate similar to Coronavirus. Coronavirus could be anywhere from less than 1% to 2%. We just don’t know yet. At least medical and sanitary practice is better now, and information more readily available. But what we do know is this is a rare situation. So caution is called for now.

Why not use Compounds instead of Projects? There’s no tangible difference and it does allow you to see in filmstrip and edit straight into your final Project. It’s true that it’s not transferring original clips into the timeline, but that is easily solved by using the “Break Apart” command – Shift+Command+G.

Seems like a super simple, quick workaround.

  • I do this all the time. I have to keep permanent archives for my organization. So periodically I’m retiring old drives and transferring contents onto new drives. When I do this I try to combine as many as possible on one drive. It’s more cost effective, and reduces the volume of drives I need to keep around (otherwise I’d be at around 60 hard drives).

By far, for me, the best way to do this is to use sparse bundles. This allows you to make drive images with the same name, and thus you will not have to relink footage or redo media management libraries. It all just works the same as when you had separate drives.

That’s helpful. I think definitely a 16″ MBP is in my future soon. I’m currently on a 2014 MBP. Hopefully the next generation of iMacs will incorporate this too.

True. But I need to replace my iPhone 6 anyways. It’s awful long in the tooth. I figure I might as well spend a bit extra and get something that I could possibly use for video. Definitely I wouldn’t use it as a crash cam.

One interesting feature of an update for Filmic Pro is the ability to record two of the cameras at the same time. For interviews this would give you two shots, close and wide for cutting. While I wouldn’t consider iPhone 11 Pro for full-time use, I would consider it for a B or C-cam that’s always in my pocket.

Phone cameras are always going to be a bit crippled with long depth-of-field, because the sensor size can only get so big. But there are many situations that doesn’t matter.

[Oliver Peters] “My review of Color Finale 2.0 over at FCPco.”

As cool as this is, I really struggle with software registration. If I get a new computer it can take nearly a whole day to deal with registration issues. So, I’m really into either simple serial number registration or something like App Store or FXFactory where you just have to sign in to your account.

I understand why software developers make it more complicated to prevent piracy. But, for me, it has to do something REALLY special for me to buy it anymore. I’m not sure CF 2.0 is there.
