  • I listened to your sound sample and it definitely sounds like clipping. My first thought would be that the camera input is being overloaded by the receiver. I work with a C100, and in fact, I did that today. Sounds like you are using mic in, if so, there are trim adjustments in the menu to help prevent overloading the pre-amp. Was your assistant monitoring the audio with headphones during recording? If overloading the input is not the problem, then maybe the wireless system has issues. Good luck.

P.S. one time when we were recording with the C100 t went haywire. No matter what we did, the audio into the camera was distorted. We powered down and removed the battery for a minute and the rebooted. It worked fine after that. Must have been a ghost in the machine…

Yes, ask the outlet what there deliverables specs are. I recently did a spot for a cable network and they gave me several options. To my surprise they didn’t care about bars and tone.

I’m not sure what you mean by “No matter what I try I can’t get the Sennheiser G3 transmitter/receiver to talk to each other.” Does the receiver show an input signal? Does it work with a lav? Same frequency I assume.

I had a similar issue many years ago when I was working with stage actors who were used to projecting their voices.
We had to do some rehearsals to get them used to speaking at a normal volume level. Your situation is a bit different. Does the room have a PA system? If the audience can’t hear the speaker, then he/she will obviously speak louder for the recording. Be ready to adjust your input trim control when the speaker starts, just riding the volume may not be enough. Ask them to give you a mic check at the volume level they will use in the presentation. You have to be ready for a “performer.” That’s just their style. Imagine working with a stand up comedian or a preacher. Just be ready to ride your input pad.

Hello. Based on what you stated, I would agree that HD 10 bit 4:2:2 50mbps would be fine. That is what many broadcast outlets request. Being 4:2:2 will give you advantages as far as compositing goes. Plus it might be a little bit easier on your computer.

I am not sure what type of work you do, but the popular Panasonic HC-X1 seems to have a lot of features at a reasonable price and it has a 1″ sensor.

It’s very odd to have music on one channel, when most music is in stereo or multi-channel.

Can you record without an input microphone connected and then look at the file in a program that will show the waveform? Then you will see the self noise. Some camcorders have noisy pre-amps. Are you recording at mic or line level input? You might ask this question in the audio professionals forum.
