Well, my situation is this. I’m looking to replace my office desktop, but I also want a laptop for field use. I thought maybe buying a high spec laptop with a large screen would let me kill two birds with one stone. Thanks for the input.

Thanks for all the great ideas. I got some interesting footage using various suggestions from the group.

I used many different white balance settings, iris adjustments, ND settings etc. The one thing that bothered me was that no matter what the white balance, camera profile, ND setting, IR or no IR filter I used, the sun looked yellow instead of the orange red I saw. I noticed the same thing with my DSLR.

    Thanks everyone!

Thanks for your info. I should have stated that I’m shooting on the ocean. The sun rises over the water and sets on land. I have tried several settings in the past with OK results, but I’m trying to find a a better result between great sun exposure and great sky exposure.
    Hard to accomplish.

Thanks for all that great info guys! I’m using a Sony EX1 for most of my shooting so the data rate is pretty low. But getting good quality previews is important to me. Thanks!

I meant to say 873×480 1.0 PAR. The text from within the DVD-A program looks really soft on computer and HDTV. I know it will, because of rescaling and resizing, but is there any way to enhance the text?
    Thanks

I’m still trying to come up with the best work flow for shooting in Hi Def and encoding to DVD. I have been shooting 30p and when it gets encoded to mpg 2 I notice in some areas, like eye balls, I see some aliasing “twinkling” in there. Perhaps that is detail that SD cannot handle? Next time I might try shooting 60i.

Thanks for that info. I think I understand what you are saying.
I am using all still images for the menu. No video is involved.

Let me explain the project. There are five videos shown on the main menu. They want to be able to see a “selected image” for each video when selected. So basically, to do that means using transitions to submenus of each of the selected images? Then, a link to the specific video from that submenu page? Does that sound correct? Thanks.

Yes. I think they thought it could be done like web pages. They supplied “selected and unselected” graphics. I will have to tell them no can do on DVD. Thanks.
