You might think I am nuts when I mention this but here goes, its what the pros do and I don

I guess we have batted this back and forth before. I don

There will be multiple ways to bypass P2 for those who aren’t willing to use P2 recording.
I hope this is the case. Panasonic has been extremely forthcoming regarding the new 200 camera, but, I have not read a thing regarding Panasonic helping others get around the P2 thing, why would they? The reasons for Panasonic giving us such a close up look at their new camera is obvious, and we benefit from all those reasons.
But to my nose things smell odd when there has been no hard (public) commitments from any companies that might offer a P2 work around. This stark contrast between Panasonics openness and a virtual blackout on the P2 alternative makes me twitch. Something is wrong, after all, what interest does Panasonic have in making an ALTURNATRIVE to their new source of income?
Makers of other recording methods must concern themselves with relations with an important company like Panasonic. It might not be worth sacrificing this relationship with the money they are making now, for money they might end up paying to lawyers later. While I think everything is go with respect to the feasibility of recording on an ext hard drive, I wonder if Panasonic has given everyone a thumbs up for such a thing. Would you make and market a product that Panasonic had a problem with? A large company does not have to be too forceful in stopping you, the simple lack of technical data and support can send a convincing message. It might take months for the message to sink in but, in the end the message is singular.
The solution of course would be for some company, any company, to publicly offer details of their upcoming P2 workaround product.
I guess I sound paranoid, the other side of my coin is that I am hopeful that my paranoia is perhaps best left to the proper medication.

I,m a “t” four times kind of guy. If I understand you correctly, I think this is how I handel such things.
If you are cutting a hole in the middle of something and you have some music which you want kept I would chop the hole, use the “t” (remembeer to hit the ‘a” after your finished with the “t”) hit the “n” to turn off and on snapping, off in this case, and move the stuff on the right, left over the hole. If you want some of the music from the left and have over writen it with this “t” thing, before you move the chunk to the left, move the sound trakcs on the right down and out of the way of the music to the left. This way you get both things and can twidle with them after the move.
It does sound like simple stuff.

I can think of many reasons you would not want this simultaneous dissolve, but, I like the idea. From time to time it might be nice to use a key modifier and do just as you suggest.
Chris
PS. most of my cutting would not benefit from a simultaneous dissolve since most of my dissolves are done with b-roll or during a visual treatments.

I mentioned this issue over at the Panasonic P2 group. They have different answers that might help you.

I did get your point the first time regarding frame accurate insert cutting, I remember with version 1.25 of FCP they said it was hit or miss with the insert function. I used a Sony A500 digibeta and I was always able to get it to the frame.
Things change, sometimes not for the best and so I can imagine that a newer deck could be less than frame accurate for the insert. My dilemma, (not much of one) I do require frame accurate with out a question this is a must. But, for what I do if I cant get reliable frame accurate inserts it simply means I have to make the change on the timeline and output the whole show for each change.

It a good idea but I think I am going to archive to DVCproHD tape. I do look forward to the blueray thing but untill it pops up as a real recordable system for data I think I will go in the direction of DVCPRO HD tape.
