This might be slightly off topic but thought I would spit it out. Mixing formates would be great I would also like a feature where at any stage you can drag any format to the timeline and you get a box (which you can turn off) which askes if you want to mix formates or start a timeline with the format (all specs) for the file you are putting on the timeline.

Quantel could do this two years ago. FANTASTIC. It mixed everything and played like a dream, I guess it still does.

I had not heard or read anything about the CinePorter p2 hard drive until you mentioned it. What I found extremely interesting is that the larger of the two models of the system talks to the P2 connection not the FireWire connection.
I have thought for some time that that proprietary P2 connection is the most interesting place to hack on the camera. If it is as fast (600mbps) and flexible as Panasonic says it is then its an extremely interesting item for 3rd party playfulness.
It might seem an innocuous little tidbit this P2 connection but in truth it is one of the most significant inventions Panasonic has to offer right now. Hacking that connection might offer interesting features that go beyond what is now available. I am not an engineer but I have noticed that when ever I mention the P2 in place of FireWire I get my head cut off. The chariots have encircled that connection, perhaps a fortress lays just beyond.
Oh the future looks bright for those who love to fiddle with fun new things.

What is also revealing is that most of the high end commercials are also pushing the chroma saturation to the limit. Pretty = high saturation, and they are soooo pretty.

Is the voltage coming into the computer up to specs?
Is there some kind of big something (machine, high power wires) in proximity (wall, ceiling, next door, floor) to the mac?
Exchange the power cable.
Is there something on top of the computer like a cell phone?
Unplug all drives including the ones inside other than the system drive, then, plug in a FW drive and try to do some simple DV stuff.
Move the drives around inside the computer, i.e. swap one drive from position a to position b and from position a to b, (a and b being your own definition).
Apple does have an odd suggestion on their web site (last year) unplug the power cable FROM THE CPU. Leave out for ten minutes then plug back in.
I could go on and on but you get the idea, try an analog solution now that you have tried the digital ones.
