Steve,
I feel your pain so no rip here.
Marks site is still under construction so that will not feed Jeremy’s appitite for some of that wonderful footage.
Jeremy, I can tell you that if you check out Sony’s or Apple’s Pro sites on the internet. You will find information on a traveling tour that will last 2 months and cover 8 or more locations in the US. The tour will showcase the HD-XDCAM and the Apple workflow Mark used on the shoot.

Mike,
Get your facts straight, the f350 records a true progressive frame just as the f900 does.
-
The camera shoots true 24P and lays it down to the disk in 24Psf. This is the same as the 900. As for the reduced resolution when shooting above native frame rate, yes the vert. resolution is reduced. However, I have seen with my own eyes the play back of such material on a BVM series HD monitor and honestly I could not tell. It looked fantastic.
Now before anyone gets off on the wrong foot here, this camera is what it is, a middle ground HD camera. Owners and users of the 900 have nothing to worry about, Your 750 is safe also. That being said if you are a fan of the xdcam workflow you might want to give this baby a chance. Or just wait a year for the 2/3″ version.
And for those who think this is just another HDV format, YOUR WRONG, at the 35mbs rate this format holds it’s own with motion.

Will be a 4 camera HDCAM shoot, wanted to edit with PP 2.0, Decklink card, and Cineform.

February 4, 2006 at 1:11 am in reply to: Anyone had a chance to see or learn anything about Sony’s new variable framerate XDCams?Ken,
I am not a CineAlta user, but a friend of mine had the 350 version of the camera for 2 days and he loved it, for what it is. A middle of the road HD camera placed between the small HDV and the big boys. He said the playback was beautiful on the Sony supplied monitors (both LCD and tube, both from the HD line). The in camera effects were as advertised in his opinion. One thing I thought was strange at first but makes perfect sense after thinking about it is the lack of audio during any of the variable frame rate recording (under or overcranking).
That said, With a full size (read 2/3″ HD XDCAM) camera likely in ’08 any purchase of this camera would need to be able to pay for it’s self in 18 months or so. IMHO

My bad on that one, I left out the f. HDW-F900R would be correct.

Well I got my answer today from Sony. A new 900 will be out this summer. It is a green version, no lead, slightly smaller, DSP upgrade with time lapse. Price for the New HDW-900R will be out this Jan. But I am sure this is not news to some of you in the know…

We will be shooting in HD. A mix of Sony 750’s and 730’s. Final mix will be 5.1. I was thinking the more mic’s around the set would aid in the final product. Two of the nat sound mic’s will capture crowd nat’s. I would like to have everything coming to a mixer then a laptop running Audition, but then I would be missing the TC. Is there some type of converter that will allow TC to be recorded on a regular audio track?
I am open to any and all thoughts..
Thanks
