Thanks for the help, I’m following up to:

“FCP will distort the footage when it’s added to the edit timeline, but you can fix that on the first shot of the footage used, and then use the copy-Paste Attributes trick to fix the subsequent shots further down the timeline.”

I don’t quite get (or know the steps) how to fix the distortion on the first shot of the footage — I have used
Paste Attributes, so I should be okay from there.

It’s a settings window with a pulldown menu listing:
Quicktime
36
AIFF
FLC
iPod
Apple TV, etc.
(similar to the “Sharing” menus on iMovie or iDVD)
You can call out the codec and options on the Quicktime screen, but I think I would need
a link to detailed settings or a screenshot of the actual settings to use with FCP6.0.6 on a
DVCProHD timeline to transcode correctly and resolve this in a timely fashion.

I can live with the fact that it’s a SD original and even with the different ratio, (it’s a documentary
so archival footage surrounded by black is not a huge issue).

My main goal is to be keep in the clip in project, transcoded so as not to crash the project. I have
some deadlines coming up.

Thanks for your help, sorry the info is coming in dribs and drabs — I’m just starting to understand
how I caused the problem.

It is an SD image and I am working on a HD project. I think my error may have been not knowing I needed to transcode the clip since I was able to import the video and audio files directly into FCP6 and placed the video and audio files directly into FCP6 and placed them on the DVCPro HD timeline (codec for the majority of the project).

I do have the video and audio files created by Mac the Ripper saved on a separate external drive.
Video is an .m2v file
Audio is an .AC3 file

If I were to open them in MPEG Streamclip (Version 1.9.2 free download), here are the export and
coversion options available to me:

Export to Quicktime
to DV
to AVI
to MPEG-4
Export Audio
Export to Other Formats
Export Frame
Convert to MPEG
Convert to MPEG with MP2 audio
Convert to Headed MPEG
Convert to TS

Any suggestions on the steps to take from here would be greatly appreciated!

I’ve restored the FCP6 project from the autosave vault, as well as trashing and restoring my FCP Preferences for good measure.

I’ve isolated and deleted the corrupted clip (hopefully there are no others), but still have a question.

The corrupted clip came from a homemade DVD provided by one of the documentary’s subjects. I used
Mac the Ripper to get the material off the DVD, and MPEG Streamclip to convert the clip to use in
Final Cut Pro. Is there an additional step to this process that I’ve missed?

Thanks for responding. The venue is going to try to change out the fixtures so I can reshoot. I’ll post footage if venue isn’t able to change out lights — I’ll need help for sure!

Thanks for quick reply. Venue is willing to work with me on the lights, I’ve tried several random settings but will try your fix if they aren’t abot to change out the fixtures.

Thanks for the quick response. I can shoot a 30fps test with the camcorder. Maybe playback on the camcorder’s LCD while still in the venue to see about flicker at various settings. I’m shooting a stage in a restaurant, lighting is fairly low even with the LED lights on the stage. I’m concerned if 30fps will affect image resolution?

I have numerous interviews already shot at 60fps – possible to use both the 30fps and 60fps on same Final Cut Pro timeline for editing without creating additional problems?

If I can’t get the lights changed out and/or bring in additional lights (assuming shooting at 30fps w. addt’l lights to help resolution), are there any additional FCP options to make this work?
