I see. If it seems to be off by a consistent amount when playing through FCP, someone may have adjusted the frame offset. If you go to FCP > System Settings > Playback Control > Frame Offset you can adjust it manually and get the amount that matches your exports. I usually end up between 1 and 5 frames.

After you link the two pairs of audio clips and video clip together, do you drag that into a new bin? (You can check they’re truly linked before dragging into a bin by making sure your ‘linked selection’ is on and just click one clip and see if the rest highlight.) If you drag the clip that’s in your new bin to the timeline, it should have all the audio tracks on it.

You can use Pluraleyes to quickly sync your video clip with the in-camera audio to the external audio. It won’t delete your in-camera audio so then you can just highlight that clump and link it yourself before dragging to the bin.

Some of your issues stem from mixing drop frame with non-drop frame. Drop frame uses a semi-colon or period. Non-drop frame uses all colons.

I wouldn’t recommend changing the framerate of your footage while transcoding (depending what program you’re using) or you will get stutters. Do you need to deliver 25fps? If all the footage is originally 29.97, you may want to edit at those settings.

How did you originally rip the video from the DVD to get that codec?

If you still have the DVD, you could just drag it directly to MPEG Streamclip to export and choose your own prores codec for FCP. That way it’s not double-transcoded.

I’m going to suggest a few different things, as this error can indicate basically anything.

-What is most likely is you have a corrupt file somewhere in your project. One way of checking is stringing out all your materials in a sequence and trying to render. The clip that won’t render is corrupt. You will need to get rid of it and bring it back into the project. I suggest converting from raw again if it’s video or re-exporting an aif from QT7 if it’s audio. In some way, you need to refresh the file before bringing it back in.

-Quit FCP and delete all of the files in “Render Files.” (If you don’t want to re-render your sequences, try the other options first.) Be sure to empty your trash before re-opening FCP.

-Quit FCP and trash your preferences. This is a great catch-all for FCP errors. Your preferences can be found here: [Your system username]>Library>Preferences>com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist Empty your trash and reopen FCP.

-Restarting your whole system often helps with these mysterious errors as well. FCP will bug out if the computer or program has been up and running too long.

Are you working with files on an external hard drive or are they still on your card?

What size and frame rate are they?

There is no limit on the number of files, but how much space do you have available on the drive itself?

The h264 files will need to be converted to a prores codec before editing. I recommend you convert all video files into the same format before editing in FCP 7.

What format are your audio files? If they are mp3s, you will need to convert those as well to AIF or WAV.
