Dennis is the straightest of straight shooters……he doesn’t make Adobe policy but he’s upfront about explaining it …..what’s lost in these discussions is the tremendous improvements ADOBE has tested and put into action in the new version – don’t want or need them? Stick with your current version — want them – pay an amazing, great value for an entire suite of products you once paid 3 or 4 times more for just one of the pieces of software.

I’d like both, but have been on CC for months and it’s terrific – and as we upgrade with every new version, it’s a bargain – you get EVERYTHING they make –
for most of us we’re only interested in PP Audition Photoshop and AE — if you upgraded each separately as stand alone license – it would take you several years of amortizing all those costs to match the bargain you get with the cloud (and they’ll have already innovated new versions in the meantime)
— we’re already using Web products we never imagined using because we can explore and use them for “free” as part of the subscription.
Abobe’s invested 10’s of millions in product development and received 0 dollars for that development until they offer it for sale. Smart businesses maximize ROI….those of us who do this for a living do ..why not Adobe — I’ll happily be a CC subscriber.

If anyone closes shop and needs to come back and reedit something,they pay a one month subscription fee. And they are done. Does that really kill your business ? Lets say its double by then. 60 bucks one month. You seriously can’t build that into the cost of a client reedit?

We’ve been continuing to update Final Cut Pro X with revolutionary pro features like industry leading multi-cam support and we just updated Aperture with incredible new image adjustment features.
We also announced a MacBook Pro with a Retina Display that is a great solution for many pros.

This is an excellent play by play work flow — and despite everything negative that’s been written about FCP X, what gets lost is that many editors WANT to like it – as I do — but I get lost in the audio mixing – we’re used to creating live mixed audio keyframes for our mixes and until Apple provides and equivalent, there are alternatives that work better for us.

can’t say i’ve had that experience – works fine on a 2 year old MacBook Pro – and it ROCKS on my MBP Retina…..but then everything rocks on that machine – even FCP7

Nice overview, Oliver. Agree — we’ve transitioned from FCP 7 to PP6 and tested 7 (great improvements) We use AVID when client calls for it (delivered AVID Timelines to post to longer shows)
After two years and so many flame wars, many FCP X fans often forget that most, if not all FCP 7 editors WANTED to love X — but had a tough time changing many conventions to fit Apple’s idea of what editors should do and how they should think.
The lack of a real time keyframable audio mixer stops us from doing long form work with FCP X – also not thrilled about the locked in place window nature of the program on one monitor.
Overall, there have never been better, more robust choices for editors. FCP X is great for quick and dirty fast turn around work for us and we’ve used it for that. Premiere Pro has become are main NLE for it’s integration with AE and Audition and ease of use. Avid is our least favorite NLE — feels creaky and last decade.
Wish I could have been at the Las Vegas toy store with the folks who went.
