  • Just to toss around questions about the lessons, or ideas on variations on what we’ve learned.

We could also just start a topic per lesson in this After Effects forum. For instance: any questions, ideas, remarks or whatever about “lesson 2: Basic Color Keying” would go in the topic “Serious Effects & Compositing – lesson 2: Basic Color Keying”. And then of course try to stick to that one lesson in that one topic

    How about it?

First of all: thanks for a great tutorial. I never thought I could get such results in a few relatively simple steps. I’ve never had to do stuff like that yet, but I’m just really excited to know that I can if I need to. Thanks!

After finishing the tutorial I realised that I was affecting everything with even just a hint of red in it, including for instance the slightly voilet veil. I wondered if there was a way to isolate the skintones. Then I looked into the keying section and found the Color Range effect. After adding a few colors to the range (a few points on her face) it was quite easy to adjust the sliders so I’d key as much as possible from the face without keying away anything else.
I hid the matte layer, added the adjustment layer and set the Track Matte to Alpha Inversed from the Matte layer. From there I did everything according to the tutorial.
I found that the veil had more detail left using this method, and you can see some seperate hairs wave in the wind to the right of her face that were blurred out in the original composition.
I know it’s just details, but isn’t that what it’s always about with those ladies? ;P

Is there any reason why I shouldn’t be doing it this way? Rendering didn’t seem to take any longer (11 seconds on my VERY mediocre PC), and getting the right matte didn’t take very long after figuring out how Color Range worked (I hadn’t used it before).
I’d really like to hear some thought’s on this.

    Yours,
    Andra

    P.S.
    Congratulations on the upcoming marriage!

Same here! I’ve never worked with audio in AE before, and thought I should check it out. I’ve got a 12 second drumloop at 44.1 kHz and 16 bits in Stereo that I imported into a new project. I pulled it onto the “new comp” to make a new comp the length of the loop.

When I open the “footage” and hit play, the drums are there.

When I hit 0 for RAM preview… nothing

When I hit . for audio preview… nothing

    When I render a movie… nothing

I’ve tried using the speaker switch on the layer… nothing

I’ve tried the speaker switch on the Time Controls… nothing
By the way: which position means SOUND ON for that switch. The in (with stop sign) or out (without stop sign) position>

When I open up (pull down) the audio layer all the way including the waveform, it doesn’t display a waveform. Instead, there’s a flat blue line, as if there isn’t any audio. Again, there should be audio because I can hear it as footage.

The meters on the audio panel haven’t moved yet, either.

My Audio Preview settings are 50 seconds at 44.1 kHz, 16bits, Stereo.

I’m probably missing something here, but I would really like to get this working. So any and all ideas are welcome…
    Thanks in advance!

    Yours,
    Andra
